Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz (Liverpool)
The 22-year-old Germany international has been one of European football’s hottest properties for a while now, and a club-record deal worth at least £100million saw Liverpool tempt Bayer Leverkusen into cashing in. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City were also in the market for the attacking midfielder, who scored 57 goals in 197 appearances for his former club across all competitions. A dozen assists in the Bundesliga last season is another impressive statistic.
Tijjani Reijnders
Tijjani Reijnders (Manchester City)
Pep Guardiola needed to rebuild an ageing City midfield now missing Kevin De Bruyne, and Dutchman Reijnders was recruited from AC Milan for £46.3m. At 27, he is not exactly a spring chicken himself, but remains relatively fresh after only recently coming to prominence. Voted Serie A’s best midfielder last season, Reijnders has made 23 appearances for the Netherlands and his passing ability and eye for goal when arriving late in the box could prove invaluable.
Benjamin Sesko
Benjamin Sesko (Manchester United)
The Slovenian striker has also made the journey to Manchester, but his task is to help rekindle the fortunes of neighbours United. The Red Devils beat off fierce competition from Newcastle for 22-year-old frontman Sesko, who could end up costing up to £74m after netting 27 times in two Bundesliga seasons at RB Leipzig. Hailed as being blessed with ‘electrifying pace and the ability to physically dominate defenders,’ Sesko will spearhead a revamped United frontline.
Viktor Gyokeres
Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal)
Having been second-best for three straight seasons, Arsenal will be hoping that Sweden marksman Gyokeres can get them over the line for a first title triumph since 2004. His recent goalscoring credentials are impressive, with 97 goals scored in 102 games across all competitions for Sporting Lisbon over the last two seasons. The 27-year-old has a point to prove in England after failing to make the grade at Brighton before joining Championship outfit Coventry - that could make him even hungrier for success at Emirates Stadium.
Jamie Gittens
Jamie Gittens (Chelsea)
The Reading-born 21-year-old winger spent some time in Manchester City’s academy before switching to Borussia Dortmund, where he was initially hampered by injuries. However, he earned rave reviews when staying fully fit last term, grabbing eight Bundesliga goals and also striking four times in the Champions League. It is not easy for new players to make an impact at big-spending Chelsea, but Gittens has the scope to prove a relative bargain at £51.5m.
