Bookies Call It Tight for Croke Park Decider
Punters are divided on the destination of the All-Ireland Senior Club Championship trophy ahead of this weekend’s showdown at Croke Park between Kerry’s Dingle and St. Brigid’s of Roscommon.
Paul Geaney’s second-half appearance from the bench inspired Dingle to a stunning comeback against Ballyboden St. Enda’s in the semi-finals, and the Kingdom side are now just marginal underdogs for the silverware at 10/11 with BOYLE Sports as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in an All-Ireland final.
2013 champions St. Brigid’s, who missed out by a point to Glen in the decider two years ago, are favourites by a whisker at 5/6 having seen off Monaghan outfit Scotstown at the semi-final stage, however the betting suggests a single point could be enough to swing the result in either direction yet again.
Kerry star Paul Geaney is a 7/1 shot to be crowned man of the match following his semi-final heroics, but Rossies forward Ben O’Carroll is being well backed too, making him 5/1 favourite ahead of Dingle’s Mark O’Carroll (13/2), who has been granted extended leave from his AFL club to kit out for the final.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“The betting is as tight as it gets ahead of this weekend’s showdown, with punters split right down the middle between Dingle and St Brigid’s. The odds point to a razor-close encounter, and with an All-Ireland title on the line, neither side is being allowed to pull clear in the market.”
