Kimi Antonelli continued to rewrite the Formula One history books with a magnificent victory in Monaco and few will be taking him on in their Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix predictions. The 19-year-old Italian became the youngest winner at last weekend’s iconic venue, easily eclipsing runner-up Lewis Hamilton , who was 23 when he took his first triumph in the principality in 2008.
Despite all the pre-race suggestions that Monaco’s unique twists and turns would negate the speed and power advantages enjoyed by Mercedes this season, Antonelli recorded a fifth consecutive grand prix victory .
His updated points tally of 156 is six more than he managed all last year and puts him 66 clear of Hamilton at the top of the table. “It has been an incredible weekend and one of those days where we just had amazing pace,” said Antonelli. “It just came naturally and gave me the confidence to push.”
Ominously, he added: “The job is not finished, and it is a long season. We have to keep raising the bar.” Antonelli is now as short as 20/21 in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix odds, but it is hard to argue with that assessment.

Russell: I still know what I can do
Although there are still 16 races remaining, George Russell has a mountain to climb if he is to catch his Mercedes team-mate and the Brit certainly needs to reverse a downward spiral soon.
Russell won the first race of the season in Australia but has since been rocked by a series of mishaps, ultimately finishing out of the points in 13th in Monaco after he was hit with a late drive-through penalty for incorrectly serving an earlier five-second sanction for speeding in the pit-lane. That came a fortnight after a mechanical failure thwarted a probable victory in Canada and Russell is now 68 points behind Antonelli after leaving both races empty handed.
However, when asked if he still believes he can challenge for the championship, Russell replied: “Yes, for sure – 100 per cent . The season has been disjointed, but I still know what I can do.” At a driver-friendly circuit which has a good mix of high and low-speed corners but generally rewards outright pace, Russell is 9/4 to claim a much-needed win and get his title hopes back on track.
Verstappen value to bounce back from early KO?
Ferrari were fancied to do well in Monaco and Hamilton backed that up by finishing a fine second, while Charles Leclerc was going well until crashing out late on. The make-up of this weekend’s race does not look as favourable, though, with that pair quoted at 16/1 and 18/1 respectively to pass the chequered flag in front.
Despite Max Verstappen being forced to retire at the end of lap one , there were some encouraging signs for Red Bull , with Isack Hadjar eventually awarded third place. On his personal misfortune, Verstappen said: “It was such a shame for us as everything was going really well up to that point. We felt great in the car all weekend.”
The four-time world champion is 7/1 to claim a first win of the season and will appeal to those seeking value in their Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix tips. Hadjar can be backed at 66/1 , while McLaren will be more optimistic of performing well in Spain and punters can get 8/1 for Lando Norris and 14/1 for Oscar Piastri .
