Saturday night at Limerick Stadium was one of the most exciting with the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial getting off to an epic start.

Patrick Guilfoyle now trains the favourite to win the €80,000 competition with Explosive Boy now into 5/1 from 12/1 following his blistering opening round victory that saw this son of Good News – Delightful Girl, clock the fastest time of the night in 28.08, not far off the track record of 27.95.

BoyleSports GAA ambassador Diarmuid Connolly chose this talented youngster and placed his €100 charity bet on him with all proceeds going to the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT). ""

Top horse racing pundit Kevin Blake placed his €100 charity bet on De Machine who ran a huge race to finish second to Hello Mikey in 28.77. De Machine remains 14/1 while Hello Mikey, who was gambled in the early stages of the Easter Cup in Shelbourne Park, is now 40/1 from 50/1.

Singalong Sally was sublime from trap 2 to clock 28.32 beating her rivals by seven lengths. This Pat Buckley trained flyer is the 10/1 second favourite from 14/1.

The original joint ante post favourites failed to get off to a winning start but remain safe and through to the next round with Ballymac Ariel 7/1 from 8/1 and Ballymac Cashout 8/1. Deadly Destroyer was a very good winner of heat 3 in 28.36 resulting in his odds being clipped into 12/1 from 16/1.

Racing TV pundit and former flat jockey Fran Berry placed his €100 charity bet on All About Ted who got his Con & Annie Kirby Memorial campaign off to a wonderful start by winning in 28.74. His odds have been cut into 16/1 from 25/1.

Rackethall Leo was an impressive winner of the second heat with odds plummeting into 33/1 from a high of 100/1. Owned and trained by Liam McGrath, this son of Tyrur Big Mike – Leamaneigh Breda recorded a career best of 28.45 running on strong to win by 3½ lengths so it’s no surprise to see his odds tumble.
