Despite losing to Ballymac Ariel for the second week in a row, the Patrick Guilfoyle trained Explosive Boy remains the favourite to win the €125,000 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

He broke fast from trap two on Saturday night in the opening quarterfinal clocking 3.33 to the first bend, his fastest in the competition so far along with a 16.98 to the third bend.

His lead wasn’t to last for long however as the fast Ballymac Ariel was hot on his heels as she took the lead at the third bend to go on and win in 29.37.

This Liam Dowling trained star only won by half a length as Explosive Boy was coming back at her again on the home straight as well as All About Ted who was flying in behind for Peter Cronin.

Explosive Boy remains unchanged as the 5/2 favourite as well as Ballymac Ariel who stays as the 7/2 second favourite.""

All About Ted has been cut into 8/1 from 14/1 and has a massive chance of making the final.

Singalong Sally won the second quarterfinal for trainer Pat Buckley in 29.70 wearing the blue jacket and ran really well to come from behind.

This speedy daughter of Tullymurry Act – Droopys Smasher has been clipped into 25/1 from 40/1 to win the biggest race of them all. Sally finished a length and half in front of the Graham Holland trained Monraud Thunder who ran a cracker after a flying start from trap one. His odds have been cut into 33/1 from 50/1.

Gortkelly Nestor grabbed third with his chances unchanged at 33/1.

Susie Sapphire continued her dominant display in this Derby to win in 29.48 beating Scooby Princess and Ballymac Fairone. Susie remains 8/1 while Scooby Princess is 10/1 from 16/1 after running a massive race to finish only a head behind Susie. Ballymac Fairone was flying home too but has been eased out 25/1 from 20/1.

Graham Holland’s Jackslittlething flew from traps to win his heat in 29.23, the fastest of the night. This talented son of Droopys Sydney – Limini has won his last six races and is running out of his skin for connections. He remains unchanged at 4/1 with qualifiers Carrigeen North 33/1 and Priceless Jet 25/1.

We have priced up the semi-finals with All About Ted the 11/8 favourite to win the opening heat. The second heat is an absolute cracker with Explosive Boy the 9/4 favourite.
