Everton v Man United Preview

Everton’s Form

It’s been a turbulent few seasons for Everton, which has seen their status fall from one of the most consistent sides in the Premier League particularly under Moyes from 2002-2013 to fighting financial issues and relegation battles for the last half a decade. Ultimately Dyche received the job earlier this year and Moyes returned for his second spell at the club on the 11th of January.

The club's fortunes have reversed under Moyes despite losing 0-1 in his return fixture against Aston Villa. Since that defeat, they’ve been flying going unbeaten in their last five league games earning thirteen points including a point against bitter rivals Liverpool when Tarkowski equalised in the 98th minute.

They say never return to an ex, but Moyes's appointment has made rubbish of those claims in recent weeks.

Man United’s Form

Rome wasn’t built in a day and Amorim will know now following three months in the Head Coach role (if he didn’t already) that Man United require a considerable amount of rebuilding both on and off the field. Despite that expectation levels remain high at the club with every defeat amplified in the media to such a high degree that it has broken many before him including both managers and players and their latest 1-0 defeat against Tottenham has them stuck in Premier League purgatory.

If the task wasn’t already higher, the squad is even more threadbare than the one he inherited with “better performers” Amad and Martinez both out for the remainder of the season, Eriksen, Yoro and Mainoo, Collyer doubts along with Shaw, Ugarte and Mount all injured taking the tally to a staggering ten players. Amorim may have to look to the famous Carrington Academy for a glimpse of that shown last weekend with 7/8 players from the Academy.

United are threadbare and it will take nothing short of a miracle for them not to have their lowest-ever Premier League finish (7th).

Key Players To Watch

Beto – Everton

Beto (27)  has been at Everton since 2023 when he signed from Udinese for a reported fee of around £25.8 million (€30 million). Despite the large fee he failed to pluck up many trees in his opening season scoring 5 goals in 37 games.

This season was going similarly until his reinvention under Moyes, and he has now scored 4 goals in his last 3 games in the Premier League taking his tally to 9 goals and 1 assist in 22 games this season. He is priced at 9/4 to score at any time during the game.

Beto any time goal - 9/4

Joshua Zirkzee - Man United

Since signing from Bayern during the summer Zirkzee (23) has had a complicated early spell at the club which is a reflection of the club on the whole as much as it is on Zirkzee.

Though he had his early moments scoring the winners against Fulham on debut, his minutes reduced under ten Hag as he struggled to get to grips with the club but following his early subbing after 30 minutes against Newcastle. His performances albeit not perfect have shown glimpses of there being a player there, especially in one of the #10 positions. He can be gotten at 7/1 to score first in this game.

Zirkzee first goal - 7/1

Everton v Man United Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Everton 1-1 Man United

Everton have improved considerably with David Moyes’ back in charge they go into this home game as worthy favourites.

Man United are battered and bruised both in a physical and mental sense and though they have a points gap between the relegation zone it’s laughable that a club of this stature are this close to the drop.

I can see this being a draw which would ensure Everton stay above United on the table.

Best Bet: Draw @ 2/1

Draw - 2/1
