In this post, we’re taking a look at the Euro 2024 Group F odds as we give you tips and preview all the betting and fixtures.

Teams In Euro 2024 Group F

Portugal | Turkey | Czech Republic | Georgia

Portugal

Nickname: Lusos (Lusitanians)

FIFA Ranking: 6

Manager: Roberto Martinez

Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Winners (2016)

Finish at Euro 2020: Round of 16

Portugal qualified for the tournament in perfect form winning 10 out of 10 from their games against Slovakia, Luxembourg, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Liechtenstein finishing 8 points clear of runners-up Slovakia. They scored a staggering 36 goals during qualifying, while at the same time only conceding 2 goals.

Despite their dominance during qualifying, they experimented with their formation throughout using 3-4-3, 4-1-4-1, 4-1-3-2 and even 4-3-3 during one of their 2024 friendlies against Sweden where they won 5-2. They are very possession dominant averaging 61.6% of the ball with a pass completion of 87.6%. Most notable for me is that they are unlike other sides who dominate the ball but don’t create chances as Portugal averages 16 shots per game.

Portugal should have a nice blend of experience and youth at the tournament with record goal-scorer Ronaldo going strong at 39 and will look to add to his tally of 206 Caps and 128 Goals. On the other end of the spectrum, Joao Neves (19) should provide the energy and defensive stability in midfield.

Ahead of the tournament, Portugal have elected to play 3 friendly matches against Finland, Croatia and the Republic of Ireland. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage the minutes and fitness of their older players ahead of the tournament in an attempt to keep them fresh.

Turkey

Nickname: Bizim Çocuklar (Our Boys)

FIFA Ranking: 40

Manager: Vincenzo Montella

Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Semi-Finals (2008)

Finish at Euro 2020: Group Stage

Turkey qualified for Euro 2024 by topping Group D with 5 victories, 2 draws and 1 defeat from their games against Croatia, Wales, Armenia and Latvia. That record was enough to put them 1 point ahead of Croatia having scored one more goal (14) and having conceded (7) which was 3 more than their closest challengers.

Turkey primarily uses a 4-2-3-1 formation occasionally fluttering with a 3-4-3 or 4-1-4-1 during qualifying. They’re strong going forward scoring 37 goals across their 16 games averaging 17.7 shots per game, 62.1% of possession and a pass completion percentage of 85.9%. Those numbers are slightly skewed due to the opposition they have faced, and I suspect that will fall back for Euro 2024.

Their captain Inter midfielder Çalhanoğlu (30) has 84 caps and 16 goals for his country and how they utilise him with Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler (19) could be their recipe for success at Euro 2024.

Turkey’s form in 2024 has seen them lose 1-0 against Hungary and 6-1 against Poland. With Italy and Poland to play pre-tournament it’s not inconceivable that they head into the competition low in confidence and winless in their last 4 games.

Czech Republic

Nickname: Lokomotiva (The Locomotive)

FIFA Ranking: 36

Manager: Ivan Hašek

Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Winners (1976)

Finish at Euro 2020: Quarter Final

Czech Republic qualified for Euro 2024 by finishing runners-up in their qualifying Group coming level on points with Albania (15) but finished below them on a head-to-head record. Although their 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss remained enough to finish above Poland, Moldova and Faroe Island scored 12 and conceded 6.

They’ve favoured a 3 at the back formation recently using either a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-3 most often during qualifying, occasionally switching to a 4-2-3-1. A huge cause for concern would be they average 46.9% of the ball despite having played a lot of weaker sides. Their pass completion is also poor with 77.9% they might have to focus on physicality with the side winning 16.4 aerials per game.

Captained by West Ham midfielder Souček (29) a lot of their success will come down to his performances along with Leverkusen hitman Schik (28) who has 18 goals in 37 caps for his country.

While Czechia usually have strong sides, a lot of their squad plays their football in Slovakia, which combined with their less-than-dominant showings during qualifying. I’m not sure how well they will perform against stronger opponents.

Georgia

Nickname: Jvarosnebi (Crusaders)

FIFA Ranking: 75

Manager: Willy Sagnol

Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Debut (2024)

Finish at Euro 2020: N/a

Georgia were drawn in a tough qualifying group and finished behind Spain, Scotland and Norway only coming ahead of Cyprus. However, they qualified then through the playoff path defeating Luxembourg 2-0 before a 4-2 penalty victory against The Greeks.

Under Willy Sagnol (a man linked with the Republic of Ireland role) they’ve been tactically flexible but usually with some variation of a 3-5-2, 3-4-3 or 3-4-1-2. They have seemingly settled on a 3-5-2 in recent games. It’s no surprise that they don’t dominate the ball averaging 45.8% but when on it are comfortable averaging 82.9% pass completion as well as creating 13.4 shooting opportunities per game.

Georgia are more about the sum of their parts rather than having lots of “Top-Class” talent. Although Valencia keeper Mamardashvili (23) is arguably the best young keeper in Europe Napoli winger Kvaratskhelia has 15 goals in 23 caps for his nation.

The concern with Georgia is that this is their first-ever Euro tournament and so will be anxious to prove they belong on the stage. Their experience in tough qualifying groups may stand to them but with only one friendly pre-tournament against Montenegro, they could be undercooking themselves for the challenge ahead.

Euro 2024 Group F Tips & Prediction

Group F Winner

Naturally, given the talent at their disposal along with their record in qualifying, Portugal should be far too good for anyone in this group.

The question remains though: can Ronaldo guide Portugal to a swansong, like rival Messi did with Argentina at the 2022 World Cup?

Tip: Portugal to win Group F @ 1/3

Group F 2nd Place

Going for a shock here Georgia under Willy Sagnol, nobody expects anything from them but their tactical flexibility along with a glittering of talent means I can see them causing a few shocks.

Group F 3rd Place

Turkey are in poor form in 2024 and while their overall record looks decent from 2023 the scorelines in some of the games are borderline suspect.

They do have the quality to qualify out of the group though if they can get it right.

Group F 4th Place

Czechia have 2 wins from 2 games in 2024 1-2 against Norway and 2-1 against Armenia. They may even have 4 from 4 before the tournament with Malta and North Macedonia to play.

However, I’m not sure they have the collective quality that they would’ve had in previous tournaments and that pressure may get to them.
