Group D Preview Euro 2024 Qualifiers

Croatia

Coach Zlatko Dalić, since taking the job in 2017, has overseen the most successful period in the country's history. Croatia were the 2018 World Cup Runners-Up, made a 2020 European Championship round-of 16 appearance along with most recently finishing third-place at the 2022 World Cup.

The Croatian core of Luka Modric (37), Ivan Perišić (34) and Brozović (30) are getting on so if they make Euro 2024 it will be one last tournament for these Croatian legends. But they are still playing at the very top of their games so who would rule it out?

If you fancy Croatia to build on their recent major tournament form by winning Euro 2024 then you can take advantage of odds of 25/1.

Wales

Despite qualifying for the 2022 World Cup following a play-off victory over Ukraine, results for this Welsh side have been poor since then having lost lost six and drawn two which makes them winless in their last eight outings.

Following the 2022 FIFA World Cup an ageing Welsh squad had four players retire Chris Gunter, Joe Allen, Johnny Williams and most notably Welsh legend Gareth Bale.

Wales could be about to go through a period of transition after what was a golden generation but with the likes of talents like Brennan Johnson, Ethan Ampadu and Neco Williams it’s not all doom and gloom! The Welsh are 150/1 to go all the way at Euro 2024.

Armenia

The Armenians are coming into this qualifying campaign under Oleksandr Petrakov who became manager on the 14th of January. Oleksandr is a coach with 32 years of experience after starting his journey with Budivelnyk Ivankiv in 1991.

In more recent years between 2011-2023, he managed Ukraine at every single youth level including the senior team. His vast experience with younger players could see a changing makeup of the squad in the coming months and years.

Ranked 94th in the world, Armenia has never qualified for an International tournament meaning that many will see the country as minnows. However, us Irish know all too well not to underestimate them following our 1-0 defeat at their hands back in June and our narrow 3-2 win over the Armenians in September.

Turkey

Managed by German Stefan Kuntz since 2021, the country had a relatively successful 2022 with six wins, one draw and three defeats. Their defeats were a 3-1 World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final defeat to Portugal, a 2-0 friendly defeat to Italy and by far their worst defeat being a 2-1 Nations League loss to the Faroe Islands.

Turkey has had moderate success in the European Championships with a quarter-final appearance in 2000 and a semi-final appearance in 2008. However, at the most recent tournaments they failed to get out of the group stages in 2016 and 2020.

Turkey consistently brings through strong squads and despite being the fourth seed they will be well in contention at the top of this qualifying group. Our odds makers are not completely ruling out Turkey from claiming Euro 2024 glory with odds of 40/1.

Latvia

Ranked 133rd in the world, they have been managed by Dainis Kazakevičs since 2020 after he progressed to his nation's main job after seven years in charge of the Latvian U21s from 2013-2020.

Likely to operate in a 4-4-2 formation, they have only one defeat in the last year which was a 2-1 defeat from Moldova that ended what was a five-game winning streak. The Latvians almost won silverware last year playing in the Baltic Cup, only losing out to Iceland on penalties.

One player in the Latvian side who may be familiar to fans of Irish Football is Raivis Jurkovskis who spent 2021 with Dundalk and is a competent full-back both defensively and particularly offensively.

Latvia are a longshot to win Euro 2024 at odds of 750/1.
