Teams In Euro 2024 Group C
England | Denmark | Serbia | Slovenia
England
Nickname: The Three Lions
FIFA Ranking: 4
Manager: Gareth Southgate
Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Runners-Up (2020)
Finish at Euro 2020: Runners-Up
England dominantly qualified for Euro 2024 with 6 wins and 2 draws from their group with Italy, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta. That put them 6 clear of Italy and Ukraine following 22 goals scored and only 4 conceded.
Whether it’s a positive or a negative for their prospects people know what they’re going to get from a Southgate selection He will use some variation of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 with the midfield 3 being Rice and Bellingham + 1. Southgate will have a big call to make about the third man and whether he is bold with a Mainoo pick or continues being safe with a Philips, Henderson or Gallagher. A more attacking manager would even consider placing Trent in midfield.
Everyone knows who their main players will be in the summer with Record goal-scorer and Captain Kane (30) crucial to their chances along with the decade-younger Bellingham (20) whose position in the side will be interesting on whether he is played further up the pitch or asked to stay deeper.
While it’s almost an oxymoron to suggest that their most successful manager in modern times, Southgate, is their weakness, I truly believe that is the case. He has the opportunity in the summer to be bold with his selections and take the game to everyone, if he does I think they will be serious contenders. If he picks safely I believe they will underwhelm.
Denmark
Nickname: Danish Dynamite
FIFA Ranking: 21
Manager: Kasper Hjulmand
Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Winners (1992)
Finish at Euro 2020: Semi-Final
Denmark qualified for Euro 2024 by winning their qualifying group by goal difference from their head-to-head record after being level with Slovenia on 22 points. However, their group was not the strongest with Finland, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland and San Marino as their opponents. They scored 19 goals and conceded 10.
It’s difficult to pinpoint a standalone formation for the Danes with their manager favouring altering his formation towards the opposition using 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-4-2-1, 3-4-1-2 and 5-3-2 during qualifying. In 2024 the tinkering has continued with them using 3-5-2 and 4-3-3. The key to watch out for come the summer is their collective quality in midfield which is why I think they might use a 3-5-2
Speaking of midfielders, Celtic star Matt O’Riley (23) has only been capped twice, but I think with a bit of luck he could break into the starting side come the summer especially if his Celtic form continues. The other man to watch is Man United striker Rasmus Højlund who has 7 goals in 14 caps for his national team.
Denmark have a nice blend of youth and experience in their squad, but I think the key to their credentials is how they use Eriksen (32). I think if he’s played from the start they could get overrun in midfield but if they use him for 10/20 minutes off the bench he would be a serious asset in their arsenal.
Serbia
Nickname: Gli Azzurri
FIFA Ranking: 9
Manager: Luciano Spalletti
Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Winners (1968 and 2020)
Finish at Euro 2020: Winners
Serbia qualified for Euro 2024 by finishing runners-up in their qualifying Group 4 points behind winners Hungary with their 14-point total from their matches against Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria. They scored 15 goals on the way and conceded 9.
Serbia tend to favour a 3-4-2-1 formation, but can occasionally switch to a more conventional 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. They tended to dominate possession during qualifying averaging 58.7% but I’d put that down to the quality of their opponents. Key to their success in summer will be their typical Serbian physicality.
Serbia have had stronger squads to choose from previously but they still have talent glistened across their team. Interestingly, their most important players by my reckoning are Saudi-based. Sergej Milinković-Savić (29) is a brilliant midfielder capable of tussling with the best while vice-captain Mitrović (29) has 57 goals in 89 caps.
The concern for me with Serbia is that they limped over the line in qualification despite having a weak group. Their performances haven’t been great in 2024 either with them limply losing 4-0 against Russia and only managing a 0-1 win over Cyprus. If they fail to step it up they stand zero chance of qualifying for the next stage.
Slovenia
Nickname: The Dragons
FIFA Ranking: 57
Manager: Matjaž Kek
Previous Best Finish at the Euros: Group Stage (2000)
Finish at Euro 2020: N/a
Slovenia qualified for Euro 2024 as Group H runners-up following their identical group total of 22 points with Denmark losing out on head-to-head records. They’ll ironically get another crack off them in Germany this summer. They also scored one more than them in qualifying (20) and conceded one less (9).
Slovenia are a throwback traditional side in their setup almost exclusively using some variation of a 4-4-2. This could end up playing to their advantage in the summer with most sides and players not used to coming up against it in “modern football”. This is very much an underdog outfit who have little to no pressure on them at Euro 2024.
Their Captain and resident netminder Jan Oblak (31) is one of the best goalkeepers in World Football and will be imperative to any chances they have in the summer. That combined with their talismanic hitman Benjamin Sesko (20) who has 11 goals in 28 games for his country.
The major worry with Slovenia, is they simply don’t have the depth of quality compared to other sides in their group. Thus, if their top players don’t form it’s hard to see them landing a glove on anyone in the group.
Euro 2024 Group C Odds

England | 2/5 | 57.1% |
Denmark | 4/1 | 28.6% |
Serbia | 7/1 | 20% |
Slovenia | 16/1 | 3.8% |
England are justifiable favourites at 2/5, considering their recent consistency on the international stage. Denmark could be value at 4/1 and Serbia are not without a chance at 7/1, However, Slovenia are considered a big outsider at 16/1 to win the group.

Euro 2024 Group C Tips & Prediction
Group C Winner
England should safely secure passage to the knockout stages of the tournament without much of a whimper due to the considerable class in their squad.
The real question with England is whether they can take on the likes of France or Germany and win under Southgate.
Tip: England to win Group C @ 2/5
Group C 2nd Place
Denmark should have enough about them with their blend of youth and experience to finish runners-up in the group, they also won’t be afraid of England,
Their final game of the groups against Serbia will be the key one though.
Group C 3rd Place
Serbia are always difficult opponents, and this summer will prove no different in Germany. However, I’m not sure there is enough in their squad to overcome Denmark.
Time will tell though.
Group C 4th Place
It’s been an achievement for Slovenia even to qualify for the tournament and anything else will be a bonus.
While they do have some decent players I think if they aren’t tactically perfect they will struggle to achieve much in Germany.
