Punters are predicting some high-profile casualties in the upcoming general election with Cabinet ministers Eoghan Murphy and Shane Ross amongst those backed to lose their seats.
Eoghan Murphy has stated he wishes to continue as Housing Minister if his party is returned to government, but has faced criticism for not doing enough to solve the country’s housing issues.
Independent Shane Ross meanwhile faces a competitive field in a constituency where only three candidates from the eleven standing will be elected.
Shane Ross is an Even money shot to retain his seat in Dublin Rathdown, but is facing a fight with Fianna Fáil’s Shay Brennan (4/6) and Fine Gael’s Neale Richmond (9/4). Catherine Martin from the Green Party and Fine Gael’s Culture minister Jospeha Madigan are odds-on at 1/20 and 1/7 respectively to snap up two of the three seats on offer.
With four seats up grabs in Dublin Bay South, Murphy is being given a better chance at 1/5 to be safe alongside Green Party leader Eamon Ryan (1/50) and Fianna Fáil’s Jim O’Callaghan (1/7).
Kate O’Connell (4/6, FG), Kevin Humphreys (10/11, Lab) and Chris Andrews (11/8, SF) also feature strongly in the betting for the capital constituency.
