Punters pick early favourites for annual pageant
There could be cause for local celebrations in County Kerry next month as Kingdom representative Caoimhe Lynch has emerged as an early 5/1 favourite with BOYLE Sports to be crowned winner at the Rose of Tralee festival.
It has been 62 years since Tralee Rose Margaret O’Keeffe scored a local victory in the annual event. But the 28-year-old Kerry Rose will be heading to the Dome next month with an impressive resumé, which includes founding The Light House Project, an initiative supporting communities facing poverty and social challenges.
The English teacher will, however, face stiff competition for the coveted crown, as she currently shares the favourite’s tag with Dublin Rose Suad Mooge, a 26-year-old medical scientist who includes kung fu on a long list of active hobbies.
Ciara McGinty (New York) and Fiona Gaffney (Chicago) are also rated as leading contenders according to early odds of 10/1 and 12/1, with the winner set to be crowned on August 18 th .
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“There’s always a bit of local pride behind the Kerry candidate, and with such an impressive background, Caoimhe Lynch is ticking plenty of boxes for punters. The Kingdom is of a long-awaited homecoming, but with strong competition from Dublin and across the Atlantic, the competition will be as wide open as ever.”
