English Greyhound Derby Favourites

Bockos Diamond – 2/1

Following the opening three rounds of the English Greyhound Derby, the favourite remains the same in Bockos Diamond the reigning BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Champion and can be gotten at odds of 2/1 suggesting a 33.3% chance he lands an elusive Derby double

The September 2022 whelp is trained by Graham Holland for the Remember-Them- Syndicate and is the exceptional son of Dorotos Wildcast and Seaglass Shadow. Despite only being 21 races into his career he’s already won the 2024 Champion Unraced in Kilkenny, slashed the 550 Track Record at Shelbourne Park clocking 28.94 but most importantly of all went unbeaten to to win the Irish Greyhound Derby last November in Shelbourne Park winning the most coveted prize in the Greyhound game.

Bockos Diamond debuted at Kilkenny in May 2024 and finished second in the Champion Unraced Stake coming 2 lengths behind Broadstrand Syd. Following that run, he went on a remarkable run of wins winning his next 15 including the aforementioned successes.

In the first round Bockos showed grit and resilance to overcome a big priced Killieford Goram (50/1 for the race) w ho was showed brilliant early gears to make all at the second bend and go on to win in 29.23.

Though he did the job in the first round, there was clear grounds for improvement and Bockos duly delivered winning in a sensational 28.53 which saw him CUT further from 4/1 into 5/2.

Bockos continued to his unbeaten start to the competition in the third round when he overcame Cheap Sandwiches in a thriller to oust kennel-mate Cheap Sandwiches by a short head winning in 28.84 and has not been CUT further from 5/2 into 2/1.

He was handed his first defeat of the competition in the quarter-final though failing to get the run he usually does he still finished strongly to finish a short head behind runner-up Droopys Plunge who finished a short himself behind Slick Sentinel, Bockos still clocked 28.89 without a run!

Cheap Sandwiches – 7/2

The second favourite for the English Greyhound Derby is again a Graham Holland-trained hound this time Cheap Sandwiches has been CUT throughout the competition going from 16/1 to 7/1 to 6/1 to 5/1 and following the quarter-final is now 7/2

The son of Burgess Bucks and Hearthill Josie was the runner-up in the 2024 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby behind his kennel mate and market leader for this competition Bockos Diamond. However, due to that he arguably flies under-the-radar and has an exceptional record of 10 wins, 11 runner-up runs and 3 third place finishes from 27 races meaning he has only been outside the money positions in 3 races almost entirely in Open Class Company.

Cheap Sandwiches put on a powerful showing in the first round to stop the clock in 28.91 which translated to an even better 28.71 after the clock was rated -20 slow. That was followed by an even better showing in the second round winning in 28.65 coming 1.5 lengths ahead of Faypoint Harvey.

In the third round he really announced himself as a genuine contender to Bockos Diamond giving it all to him to lose by the smallest of margins, had the traps been reversed the result may have changed also.

He was back to crossing the winning line in the quarter-final stopping the clock in his fastest of the competition so far a sensational 28.67, he could challenge Bockos Diamond yet.

De Lahdedah – 9/2

De Lahdedah is currently priced at 9/2 to land his second successive English Greyhound Derby victory for trainer Liam Dowling.

The October 2021 son of Lenson Bocko and Ballymac Sarahjo has been a regular scorer on the racing scene since debuting at the Juvenile Classic in Tralee back in February 2023. He was always seen as a dog with great ability including in the following September of that year clocking 27.78 for the 525 in Shelbourne Park.

He won last years final in exceptional fashion stopping the clock in a Track Record 28.58 run to be crowned as champion. In the first round he went even quicker clocking 28.58 though the Track Record is now 28.44. Showing no signs of letting off in the second round he won 28.50 in the second round.

De Lahdedah continued his impressive 2025 campaign in the competition winning in 28.83 in the third round 3 and 1/4 lengths ahead of runner-up No Better Feelin, He displayed exceptional early in the process and out muscled Ballinabola Joe to make all and book his quarter-final place.

The quarter-final brought about another strong showing, when he won in 28.81 beating Churchfield Syd by a short head.

This is clearly a track that he enjoys and though he's now been CUT from 10/1 and 6/1 into 9/2 he still remains a very active play in the outright market.

De Lahdedah to win - 6/1

Sole Mio- 10/1

Fourth favourite is the Peter Cronin trained lightly raced son of Coolavanny Hoffa and Palermo Sole Mio went unbeaten in the first three rounds of the competition before finishing in third place in the quarter-final.

The June 2023 dog only debuted on the track earlier this year at the Juvenile Classic in Tralee where he was knocked out in the second round. However, he would then run up the Con and Annie Kirby Memorial in Limerick where he finished 4 and 1/2 lengths behind winner Faypoint Ranger.

Sole Mio has really found his feet in this competition, winning his opening round race clocking 29.02 at odds of 6/1 and then improved even further for the second round winning 28.91 though this time he was no longer underestimated in the odds market to win at 6/4.

He continued his exceptional line of improvement in the third round exploding from the boxes in a 3.95 sectional to stop the clock in 28.64. However, he was handed his first defeat of the event in the quarter-final finishing 2 and a 1/4 lengths behind Cheap Sandwiches and 1 and a 1/4 lengths behind Droopys Bookem, he was still clocking a fast 28.86.

Though only 11 races into his career this is clearly a dog capable of mixing it with the best and with odds of 10/1 he has strong each way claims to win the English Greyhound Derby.

Sole Mio to win - 10/1

Bombay Pat – 12/1

Next in the betting at 12/1 is another from the Graham Holland kennel this time Bombay Pat, the son of Pestana and Clear Mountain who has DRIFTED from 8/1 to 10/1 and now to 12/1 in the betting.

Bombay Pat took a while to showcase his exceptional pace, failing to start at Kilkenny in May 2024 before finishing 4th in a sprint at Cork in July 2024. However, on his third start, he finally showed the public what he was all about winning an A3 race at Cork stopping the clock in showstopping 27.96.

In the first round he won in 28.81 coming 2 and 1/2 lengths ahead of Kevins Rocket and he continued that rich vein of form in the second round clocking an even quicker 28.53 to finish 3 and 1/4 lengths ahead of runner-up Prince Naseem.

In the third round Bombay Pat was handed his first defeat of the event coming 2 lengths back of Bubbly Charger who won in 28.79 but could still be happy with second spot after overcoming trouble to qualify. He then finished runner-up in his quarter-final coming 2 and a 1/2 lengths back of winner Dynamic Force, Pat was still clocking 28.87

With the clocks Bombay Pat is capable of along with the consistency of 12 wins from 20 races he is one of the major players in this competition.
