England have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup but the visit of Serbia is still a valuable fixture for Thomas Tuchel and his team.
For a start, the Three Lions will want to continue their perfect record in Group K which has brought them six successive clean-sheet wins with 18 goals scored, six from all-time record scorer Harry Kane. More importantly, though, it gives Tuchel another opportunity to fine-tune his plans and perhaps look at different options, especially with injuries to contend with.
Serbia have plenty to play for at Wembley, where former Reading boss Veljko Paunovic takes charge of his first match after replacing Dragan Stojkovic. They are third on 10 points, one behind Albania and what would be a guaranteed play-off spot.
If Serbia can somehow keep in touch in Thursday night’s fixtures - Albania travel to minnows Andorra - then they could snatch second place in the final round of qualifying as they host Latvia while Albania welcome England to Tirana.
However, we cannot see England slipping up and a home win with under 3.5 goals in total at evens is our prediction.

England vs Serbia Head-To-Head
England romped to a 5-0 win when the two highest-ranked teams in the group met in Belgrade in September while Jude Bellingham’s early goal earned them a 1-0 victory in the group stage of Euro 2024.
Prior to that, England beat a Serbia and Montenegro team 2-1 in a 2003 friendly but all of the other 14 meetings between the two came when the Balkan nation was part of Yugoslavia.
Of those encounters between 1939 and 1989, England won five and Yugoslavia won four. England have won the last six meetings in this fixture and are unbeaten in eight but, if you fancy Serbia to upset the apple cart on Thursday, you can get 9/1 for an away win.

England’s performances under Tuchel may not have won over all sceptics yet but results are speaking for themselves. The German coach has led his side to a 100 per cent record in qualifying, where they are the only European team yet to concede from those who have played at least six matches, and also a comfortable 3-0 friendly win over Wales at Wembley.
The only blemish has been a 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal in Nottingham but Tuchel’s team has been getting the job done when it really matters and the future is looking promising heading into a World Cup year.
Captain Kane has struck 23 goals in 17 games for Bayern Munich this season and is 4/5 to get on the scoresheet again at Wembley.
Serbia Form Guide
Serbia Form Guide
Serbia started their World Cup qualifying campaign by picking up seven points from their opening three matches and taking their unbeaten run to seven games in the process.
But back-to-back home defeats to England and Albania saw an end to that run - culminating in Stojkovic's resignation - and has put their hopes of reaching the World Cup finals for the fifth time in six editions in real jeopardy.
They beat Andorra 3-1 last time out but a loss at Wembley, where Serbia will be without injured captain Aleksandar Mitrovic, combined with an Albania win in the Pyrenees would see Paunovic’s men eliminated.
