England v Iceland Preview
England’s Form
England head into this game following a 3-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in their latest friendly success, this will be their final game before the big Euro 2024 tournament where they’re hotly fancied to go close to winning the competition.
They’ve been managed by Gareth Southgate since 2016 following initially being appointed as interim manager and has been in charge ever since. In terms of his tenure with England (which has been hotly debated) but for all his critics he’s brought them to being a more consistent force on the international stage. Following a fourth finish at the 2018 World Cup that was followed by Euro 2020 Runners-Up finish and most recently a Quarter-Final appearance at the 2022 World Cup.
However, with England, there is always a complicated relationship with the media and following news of the players who have been cut from the squad including Harry Maguire (through injury) and Grealish it has prompted more debate and speculation among England supporters.

Iceland’s Form
Iceland haven’t been in the best of form recently. Initially, they were drawn in Group J of qualifying with Portugal, Slovakia Luxembourg, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Liechtenstein. However, they disappointingly finished in fourth position with only ten points from their ten games. They had a second bite of the cherry with the Nations League Playoff and despite their 1-4 win over Israel lost in the final 2-1 against Ukraine.
Head Coach Åge Hareide has been in charge of the country since he was appointed on the 14th of April 2023. Since then he has guided them to a record of five victories, one draw and six defeats from his twelve matches in charge. That gives him a win rate of 47.90% the third highest of any Iceland manager who has been at the helm for over ten games.
Iceland had a historic victory over England at Euro 2016 and while they haven’t performed as well in their two games since, would love to stamp a blow in England's confidence ahead of Euro 2024 with a result and a performance.

Key Players To Watch
Jude Bellingham – England
While it would be easier to suggest that Captain and Record goalscorer Harry Kane holds the keys to England’s success in the tournament (and that’s certainly not without foundation). For me, the biggest games will be one in the middle of the park and that is where Jude Bellingham comes in.
The World Class Central Midfielder has already been capped 29 times and has scored 3 goals having only turned 20 last June. He is close to the perfect midfielder, already an elite passer and dribbler he could be set for a huge Euro 2024 tournament.
Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson – Iceland
The Icelandic Captain (33) is a hugely versatile player who can be seen as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder, right midfielder, attacking midfielder or winger for both his club Burnley and Country making him a hugely impactful tactical player for both teams.
He was primarily used as an RW for Burnley this season and with Iceland, he is usually played in CM or slightly forward in AM. He will likely be on Set Pieces on Friday and will be their main threat in attack creating chances from through balls and crosses.
England v Iceland Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: England 2-0 Iceland
England will want to continue their strong form and put on a statement performance ahead of Euro 2024. Iceland will have nothing to lose though and have shown itself to be a dangerous underdog team in the past.
I still fancy England to win comfortably.
Best Bet: England Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 3/1
