We have an England v Colomba prediction plus betting odds as we preview this Saturday's Women's World Cup Quarter-Final matchup.
When? 11.30 am, Saturday the 12th of August
What Channel? ITV 1 and RTÉ 2
The Lionesses qualified for the 2023 Women's World Cup via a perfect record in UEFA's Group D. They won ten matches from ten while scoring eighty goals and conceding none.
Sarina Wiegman has held the position of England head coach since September 2021, following 15 years of experience, most notably with the Netherlands. Sarina has already become the most successful England Women's coach with the highlight under her reign being England's recent Euro 2022 success.
This team had a slow start to the tournament with 1-0 victories over Haiti and Denmark. However, they came alive in their final group stage came hammering China 6-1 and announcing themselves as worthy tournament favourites.
In the Round of 16, they were very fortunate to overcome Nigeria 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 result AET. The winning penalty was scored emphatically by Chloe Kelly (who could have played for Ireland).

The Colombians came into this tournament in average form with three draws, two defeats and two wins. There was also a controversial behind-closed-doors game against Ireland which was abandoned due to their perceived roughness by the Irish team.
Nelson Abadía has been part of the Colombian backroom team since 2014, first as a technical assistant before being promoted to manager in 2017, and the highlight so far has been a 2019 Pan American Games success.
Colombia won their opening game of the tournament 2-0 against South Korea and followed that up with a shock 1-2 victory over Germany following a 97th-minute winner through Vanegas.
Aanother key performer in those matches was recent Real Madrid signing Linda Caicedo (18) who already has two goals to her name.
Colombia would lose their final group game 1-0 against Morocco but their first two wins were enough to qualify them for the knockout stages by winning their group. Next up was the round of 16 where they defeated Jamaica 1-0 thanks to an early second-half goal from Catalina Usme.

They first used the 3-4-1-2 formation against China where they announced themselves as genuine World Cup contenders. On that occasion they defeated the notoriously tough-to-beat Chinese side 1-6 with arguably England’s player of the tournament Lauren James being the star performer in the 10 position, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
However against Nigeria, they played the same formation but despite having 56% of possession they can feel disappointed with their attacking display. The Lionesses could only muster 12 shots to Nigeria’s 20 alongside a red-card for Lauren James in the 87th minute, England got out of jail and won on penalties 4-2.
This English side will be interesting, but I suspect little to no change in defence. Earps will be in net supported by Carter, Bright, and Greenwood.
In midfield, Bronze will be on the right and Stanway will continue I’d suspect her to be partnered with the creative Katie Zalem following the injury of Keira Walsh. Daly is an option further up the field, but I’d suspect to stay on the left.
Who replaces James? I think it could be Bethany England to come in for her playing in-behind a front-two of Alessia Russo alongside the incoming Chloe Kelly who I think will replace the underperforming Lauren Hemp up front.
Their five goals in four matches means they are not the most potent going forward despite having threats in their side. I’m expecting Colombia to employ a robust but fair counter-attacking game plan and allow England to have the majority of possession.
Four of their five back-five have started all four of their games in the tournament.
GK: Perez, RB: Arias, CB: Carabali, CB: Arias will all play, Guzman (18) was MOTM vs Morocco, but I’d expect Vanegas to return as LB for this one.
Bedoya has started every game in midfield, expect that to continue with captain Montoya coming back in for Ospina in this one. The front four will likely be a repeat of their superstar Caicedo, Santos, Ramirez and Usme with all four capable in a variety of positions and could rotate throughout the game.
Colombia have been the competition’s surprise package and has currently gone further than they ever have before at a World Cup. The South Americans beat the Euros 2022 finalists Germany in the group stage before edging Jamaica in the round of 16.
England have flickered hot and cold in their games and were very fortunate to win their penalty shootout against Nigeria in the Round of 16. Furthermore, the absence of arguably their player of the tournament Lauren James through suspension will be difficult to replace. I still fancy them to win this one though.

England vs Colombia Preview
England’s Tactics
England came into this formation with Head Coach Sarina Wiegman transitioning the team from the 3-4-1-2 formation that they used following their Euro 2022 success (which was a 4-2-3-1 formation) they used that for their opening victories 1-0 against Haiti and Denmark which they would’ve been disappointed with their performances in.They first used the 3-4-1-2 formation against China where they announced themselves as genuine World Cup contenders. Colombia’s Tactics
Colombia have set themselves up in a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the tournament. They are a difficult side to break down evidenced by their two goals conceded across their four matches.Their five goals in four matches means they are not the most potent going forward despite having threats in their side.
