Emmanuel Petit has lamented the ‘biggest tragedy in football’ and the part that VAR has to play in that.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea star, speaking exclusively to BoyleSports, spoke out about the negative effect of the use of technology in football.
He also talked to us about all things Chelsea ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window as he gave his verdict on what the club needs to do this summer to get themselves back to playing Champions League football.
Klopp is Right, VAR Needs To Be Scrapped – It’s Killing Football
Jurgen Klopp is right, VAR has to go. We are living in a world where we’re not allowed to make mistakes anymore.
We’re not human anymore and now we want machines to replace human beings and the interpretation we do with VAR is so weird sometimes.
It’s causing too many problems in return and there’s so many bad things that outweigh the good. We should avoid VAR and go back to what we had before, where referees can make mistakes.
Human mistakes are part of football and VAR is taking away from the atmosphere of the game. The biggest tragedy in football is trying to control emotions, it’s spontaneous and I think it’s killing football.
The Fernandez & Caicedo Partnership
I don’t think Caicedo is flourishing because Enzo isn’t there. I think they are actually very similar profiles and maybe they haven’t quite figured out which positions they need to be in.
I watched Fernandez when he played and they won a lot with him. Pochettino needs to find his spine for next season and Fernandez has to be the main cog in that.
Fernandez is still so young and has such a big future ahead of him, his injury did not help him either.

Conor Gallagher Should Be Chelsea Captain
We all know James is such a great player and we’re always crossing our fingers that he plays as much as possible.
However, how much has he played in the last three years? It’s nowhere near enough.
You cannot be the captain when you miss the majority of games - it reminds me of Abou Diaby at Arsenal when you could just never rely on him due to his unfortunate injuries.
Conor Gallagher should be the club captain, it certainly needs to be considered. Gallagher is a symbol on the pitch and plays every game so it has to be him.
Manuel Ugarte To Chelsea?
Why are Chelsea selling Gallagher, because of the money? I know they get pure profit on Gallagher but that should not mean you sell one of the most influential members of the team and one of the few English players.
It’s so important for the fans, identity and DNA of the club to have these players in the team, I don’t get it.
Chelsea have spent a lot of money and they now have to sell their own players, they need to think about this before.
Ugarte could be good for Chelsea, though, as he’s a quality player. He was one of the first names on the team sheet for Enrique at PSG, but then he fell out of favour after they were thrashed by Newcastle.
He was on the bench after that and the mentality is to build from behind, but he doesn’t suit that well.
Ugarte is very good, fighting for the second balls, providing balance for the team, but with the ball, he’s not the best in the team.
But if he joins Chelsea I think he could be a good fit in their team.
Chelsea Should Sign This Real Madrid Star
I think Chelsea should sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid to help Nicolas Jackson next season. With Mbappe arriving next season, one of Real’s big stars is going to be out of the XI, so I think this one makes sense for both parties.
Real Madrid could get a big fee and he will also be great for Jackson, although he is still young.
Could Chelsea Swoop In for Vitor Roque From Barca?
I think Roque is a good player but he’s still got a lot to improve on. I don’t think Chelsea should sign him from Barcelona, though I knew they might be willing to cash in on him.
Chelsea have quite a few players who are too young and I think signing him would be overkill. They need experienced players and that’s why I said Rodrygo.
