BoyleSports Irish Grand National Hero Our Duke got back to winning ways after a cracking finish in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park on Saturday and has shot up the betting for next month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup.
BoyleSports had to cut the Jessica Harrington-trained 8-year-old into 6/1 from 16/1 after a deluge of support following a thrilling finale, in which favourite Presenting Percy came out second best to Robbie Power’s ride, who had to recover from earlier blunders to the land the grade 2 honours.
Our Duke now only has 7/2 favourite Might Bite ahead of him in the Gold Cup market as he joins stablemate Sizing John and Native River as co-2nd favourites at 6/1.
Presenting Percy’s defeat wasn’t enough to shift him from 3/1 favouritism for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham next month, but prolific winner Black Corton went in again at Ascot to give punters something to think about in the same race, and he has closed into 12/1 from 16/1 after a seventh win under Bryony Frost.
...and if punters can forgive a few jumping concerns he may go off even shorter than the 6/1 we’ve cut him to for the Gold Cup.
