Dublin v Meath Preview

Dublin’s Form

Dublin commenced their 2024 season solidly coming runner-up to Derry in the league phase of Division 1 with a record of 5 wins and 2 defeats from a group with Derry, Kerry, Mayo, Tyrone, Galway and Monaghan. Their defeats came against Monaghan and Mayo in the opening two weeks but other than that they were pitch-perfect.

Dublin were heavy hitters on the scoreboard too with their 154-point total far surpassing any other side with Derry’s total of 138 the next best. Dublin also only conceded 105 points which was only bettered by Derry who only leaked 100 points. In the League Final, they drew in Dublin 2-21 to 3-18 before they eventually lost out 1-3 on penalties.

Dublin with a win would book their Leinster Semi-Final place against Offaly or Laois.

Meath’s Form

Meath on the other hand are coming off a poor Division 2 campaign where they finished 5th in the table with a record of 2 wins (Louth and Kildare), 2 draws (Fermanagh and Cavan) and 3 defeats (Armagh, Cork and Donegal).

Most worryingly for Meath, they were the second lowest scorers in the Division with their 86-point total only 4 more than Kildare who were relegated with 7 defeats from 7 games. They had a decent defensive effort though with 105 conceded only Donegal (83), Armagh (86) and Louth (101) conceded less.

This is very much a free hit with nobody expecting much from Meath.

Dublin v Meath Prediction & Best Bet

Dublin are heavy favourites for this game to bounce back from their league final penalty shootout defeat against Derry. It’s very hard to look past them too with the Dubs dominating Meath in recent encounters.

Meath were very average during their league campaign and while they remained relatively tight at the back, it’s a whole different story preventing heavy hitters Dublin from getting on the scoresheet too often.

Dublin win comfortably and I think Con O’Callaghan could put on a show for the Dublin supporters, firing a few goals.

Prediction:

Dublin 2-24  Meath  0-14

Best Bet: Con O’Callaghan to be MOTM @ 10/3
