Dublin are the favourites for this one at 2/7 in the betting odds to win this game in 70 minutes.

Galway are big underdogs ahead of this one at odds of 4/1.

If you fancy the draw after 70 minutes (at the full-time whistle) you can back that at 15/2.

Dublin: -4 @ 10/11

Galway: +4 @ 21/20

Handicap Draw: -4 @ 9/1

Our oddsmakers have Dublin as 4-point favourites in the handicap betting. That means if you bet on Dublin -4 they will need to win by 5 points or more for that bet to be a winner.

Conversely, Galway are the 4-point underdogs and would need to lose by 3 points or less, draw or win for a bet on Galway +4 to be graded a winner.

Team News

Dublin Team News

Dublin are yet to announce their team for this game with the official announcement likely to come out on Thursday evening via the official Dublin X (formerly Twitter) account.

Here is how they were listed to line up AGAINST MAYO in their most recent match.

There were 3 late changes to that team with Daire Newcombe, Killian McGinnis, and Paul Mannion all making way for Seán MacMahon, Tom Lahiff and Colm Basquel.

It will be interesting to see if Dessie Farrell opts to keep big names like Mannion, James McCarthy, and Jack McCaffrey in reserve for this one or if they will get the nod from the start.

Cormac Costello won Man of the Match last time out so he’ll be expected to get a start among the forwards and draw a lot of attention from Galway while Con O’Callaghan remains a freak of nature so he will also be a player that Galway will have to gameplan around in defence.

Galway Team News

Like Dublin, Galway have not announced their team for this quarter-final yet.

Here is how they lined out for last weekend’s preliminary quarter-final AGAINST MONAGHAN.

The big news going into that game was the return of Damien Comer who had been dealing with an injury. Comer was not deemed fit enough to start but he was sprung from the bench early in the second half and got his name on the scoresheet.

The big question going into this game is whether Comer will be thrust in from the start or kept in reserve. Given Galway’s underdog status, I have a feeling we may see the Annaghdown man get the start.

Dublin 2-19 0-13 Roscommon | All-Ireland Groups Round 1 | Croke Park, Dublin

Dublin 3-19 0-12 Meath | Leinster Quarter-Final | Croke Park, Dublin

Analysis

Dublin come into this game as the defending All-Ireland champions, current Leinster champions (securing their 14th consecutive provincial crown) and after a week's rest after topping Group 2 of the All-Ireland group stage.

The Dubs have impressed in this year’s Championship as evidenced by their unbeaten record in six outings. The only blemish on what would otherwise be a perfect record was their draw in their most recent game against Mayo. Dessie Farrell’s side looked rather pedestrian for large parts of that game but when the game was in the melting pot they pulled it out as they always seem to do. That, perhaps above all else, is the sign of champions – doing what needs to be done in the clutch to get a result even when not at their best.

In the second round of the All-Ireland groups they blitzed Cavan for 5-17. Cavan are by no means All-Ireland contenders but they are no mugs either and putting 5 goals past them is a reminder of how scary this Dublin attack can be when on song.

The other group stage game for the Dubs came against Roscommon. The Rossies could not cope with the Boys in Blue who defeated them on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-13. Once again, and with all respect to Roscommon, the quality of competition was not the highest but the nature of the victory was impressive. Roscommon will also play in the quarter-finals this Saturday.

Dublin did have a small scare in the Leinster Final when Louth kept the game close up until the 54th minute although the Dubs would pull away from there.

It is hard to pick out flaws with this Dublin team and the way they are performing at the moment. If they can play the way we know they are capable of on Saturday evening then Galway will find it tough going in Croke Park.

Galway 0-14 0-11 Monaghan | All-Ireland Preliminary Quarter-Final | Pearse Stadium, Galway

Armagh 1-12 0-15 Galway | All-Ireland Groups Round 3 | Markievicz Park, Sligo

Westmeath 0-11 1-12 Galway | All-Ireland Groups Round 2 | Cusack Park, Westmeath

Galway 2-14 0-15 Derry | All-Ireland Groups Round 1 | Pearse Stadium, Galway

London 0-09 5-21 Galway | Connacht Quarter-Final | McGovern Park, London

Analysis

Galway qualified for this All-Ireland quarter-final thanks to their 3-point win last weekend against Monaghan in an All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final. That win in Salthill wasn’t an awe-inspiring performance by any means but they took care of business rather comfortably against what is one of the poorer Monaghan sides we’ve seen in recent years.

With that said, it takes Galway’s record against Division 1 sides (teams that played in Division 1 this year) in this year’s Championship to 3 wins and 1 draw. They deserve a lot of credit for that record.

They had an automatic All-Ireland quarter-final berth in their hands when they were leading by a point against Armagh late in injury time but were unable to close it out which saw Armagh qualify top on points difference.

Another game against Division 1 opposition came against Derry in the opening round of the All-Ireland group stage. They were impressive against the Oak Leaf County in a 5-point victory although there is an asterisk beside the result given that Derry were down to 14 men for the majority of the game.

Galway’s most impressive win of this Championship came against Mayo. Despite being down 2 points late in injury time, the Tribesmen rallied with a flurry of points late to beat their old foes in front of a packed Pearse Stadium.

Padraic Joyce’s men have put together an impressive body of work in this Championship, and when you consider that along with a talented panel of players you would expect them to be no easy out for Dublin in this quarter-final.

Dublin v Galway Previous Championship Meetings

Dublin and Galway have faced off 10 times in the All-Ireland Football Championship. Dublin have won 8 of those encounters with Galway winning just twice.

Galway’s last win against Dublin came all the way back in 1934 when they beat the Dubs in the All-Ireland Final.

The most recent meeting between these two sides was in 2018 when they faced off in an All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park with Dublin winning comfortably on a scoreline of 1-24 to 2-12.

Dublin v Galway Prediction

Prediction: Dublin 2-14 1-14 Galway

I’m predicting that Dublin will beat Galway by 3 points in this All-Ireland quarter-final.

If Dublin play up to their potential then there is no way that Galway can live with them. The question is; will Dublin play to that level? Or can Galway frustrate them? Well, I do actually think that Galway will frustrate them for long periods in this one.

This is a talented Galway side and I can see them going blow for blow with the Dubs for 55-60 minutes. However, I think Dublin’s bench will prove decisive down the home stretch and will ultimately be the difference in this match.

Dessie Farrell was able to call on the likes of Paul Mannion, Jack McCaffrey, and James McCarthy against Mayo with the game in the balance late on. That experience, and frankly embarrassment of riches, at Farrell’s disposal is what separates the Dubs from the rest of the top teams and what makes them so hard to beat.

Best Bet: Dublin to win by 1-3 points @ 16/5
