Donegal’s Form

Donegal started their 2024 in fine fashion topping Division 2 one point clear of Armagh after going unbeaten with six wins and one draw. They then won the Division 2 final defeating Armagh in a 0-14 to 0-15 scoreline in Dublin. In the Ulster Championship, they then had a flying run with a 0-17 yo 4-11 win over Derry and a 0-18 to 0-16 win over Tyrone to reach the final. They were victorious in another final after a 0-20 a-piece draw against Armagh they won out 5-6 on penalties.

In the All-Ireland Groups, they continued their flying form topping the group ahead of Tyrone, Cork and Clare with a record two wins and one draw due to a better points difference than Tyrone and Cork. They then won their Quarter-Final 1-23 to 0-18 against Louth before losing the semi-final 0-15 to 1-14 against Galway.

Donegal have continued their form into 2025 with a 0-20 to 0-16 win over Dublin and most recently a 1-18 to 0-23 win over Kerry.

Armagh’s Form

Last year Armagh finished second in Division 2 coming one point behind Donegal going unbeaten with five wins and two draws. In the final, they then lost out by a single score in a 0-14 to  0-15 loss against Donegal. In the Ulster Championship, they defeated Fermanagh 0-9 to 3-11 and beat Down in a 2-6 to 0-13 match before drawing 0-20 in the final against Donegal before losing 5-6 on penalties.

In the All-Ireland stage, they topped their group with Galway, Derry and Westmeath going unbeaten with a record of two wins and one draw. The Quarter-Final brought them a 2-12 to 0-12 win over Roscommon and they booked their place in the All-Ireland Final following a 1-18 to 1-16 after extra time victory over Kerry. They then would win the final against Galway in a 1-11 to 0-13 battle.

In their opening league game of 2025, Armagh lost 1-12 to 0-9 against Galway in an All-Ireland Final reverse fixture. More recently they bounced back to winning ways with a 1-23 to 0-19 win over Tyrone.

Key Players To Watch

Oisin Gallen

The danger man for Donegal is Seán Mac Cumhaills forward Oisn Gallen who made his inter-county debut for Donegal in 2019. His importance for Donegal has heightened in recent seasons though and in 2024 he won an All-Star after being nominated for one in 2023. This year he is Donegal’s top-scorer with seven points so far.

Andrew Murnin

The Full-Forward who plays his club GAA for St Paul’s has been Armagh’s most prolific player in 2025 with a record of (1-4) all of which he scored in their most recent victory over Tyrone. The 2023 Armagh player of the year looks to be their dangerman for Sunday's Division 1 fixture.

Donegal have been performing brilliantly in recent seasons and at odds of 11/2 look like a strong value market play for this summer's All-Ireland Championship.

Reigning All-Ireland Champions Armagh have failed to get the better of Donegal in their recent fixtures but with odds of 2/1 can’t be dismissed given the close nature of their games.

Donegal are justifiable favourites, but I fancy Armagh to cause a minor shock, especially at odds of 2/1.
