Open invitation? Donald’s Doonbeg date in diary
Odds released by BOYLE Sports today suggest VIP attendance at next year’s Irish Open golf event after the DP World Tour confirmed Doonbeg would stage the 2026 edition.
The bookie rates it a 3/1 shot that U.S. President Donald Trump uses the opportunity for a trip the Emerald Isle to check in on his County Clare resort, which he last visited in 2023.
The coastal links also hosted its high-profile owner during his first term as President and government sources in Dublin have already hinted that the 2026 tournament could provide a platform for talks between the Taoiseach and his American counterpart.
Bryson Tipped For Irish Trip
Rory McIlroy will be the defending champion when the tournament returns after he bagged his second Irish Open title in style at the K-Club last Sunday. McIlroy sunk an eagle putt on the 72nd hole before winning a play-off, and is likely to be among the favourites again when the event heads west.
Trump ally Bryson DeChambeau, who plies his trade on the breakaway LIV Golf circuit, is now rated a 1/2 shot to tee it up at next year’s Irish Open following the announcement of the venue.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
"The Irish Open has always attracted a strong field, but with the odds pointing to Donald Trump swinging in, we’re anticipating a surge of interest both on and off the fairways."
