Since Wimbledon officials announced that competitors would receive the same rate of pay regardless of sex, stats have revealed since the tournament started paying equal prize money in 2007, the likes of Venus and Serena Williams have made significantly more per set than ‘the big four’ Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Seven-time champion Serena Williams has taken home a whopping $95,297 for each of the 161 sets she’s played at Wimbledon - the most of any woman - while her older sister Venus has earned $52,453 per set played.

Meanwhile, the top earner in the men’s game, six-time winner Djokovic, has taken home significantly less per set with $68,204 made from each of his 280 sets played since 2007 - nearly £30,000 less than Serena.

Garbine Muguruza, who has earned the second most per set of any woman since 2007 at $74,850, has also made more per set than Djokovic, Nadal, Federer and Murray.

Incredibly, the data reveals that Federer, Murray and Nadal make up the bottom three for earnings per set out of all the All-England champions since equal prize money came into force, with NINE of the top ten earners per set all women.

A spokesman from BoyleSports said: “Since Wimbledon officials announced that both men and women would be paid the same earnings at Wimbledon in 2007, the stats have shown that females make a staggering amount more per set in earnings.

“The figures stem from the fact that women play best of three sets, while the men play best of five.

“Nevertheless, the data reveals some of the best women tennis players over the last 15 years have dwarfed the figures of some of the greatest men’s tennis players, including the famous ‘big four’ Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray
