Former German international Didi Hamann has come out in defence of England striker Harry Kane as German giants Bayern Munich look set to not win the Bundesliga for the first time in over 10 years.

Hamann, who spoke exclusively to us here at BoyleSports, offered his insight into how Bayern Munich fans feel about Kane while also defending Kane’s decision to opt for Bayern over Man United and replied to Thomas Tuchel’s comments about him.

Harry Kane Criticism At Bayern Unfair

The manager came in last season around this time and things didn’t improve, the football didn’t improve, the results didn’t improve. They won the league on the final day by default and when they started the season this year there were always question marks over whether Tuchel at Bayern was going to work out.

As we know now it hasn’t worked out. Harry Kane is loved and adored by the fans and has scored almost 30 goals so I don’t think it has anything to do with him, they had a chance a few weeks ago to go top and all of a sudden they’ve lost the league by going 10 points behind.

You can’t plan, you can’t guarantee success. He obviously came here to win the league, it’s not going to happen, they are out of the cup as well and have a tough test in the Champions League against Lazio. It’s very likely he will go trophyless in his first season at Bayern but he has to go again next season.

Thoughts On Michael Owen’s ‘No Great Achievement’ To Win The Bundesliga Comment?

I can hear what Mike is saying, or what he wants to say but you shouldn’t underestimate the size of the club. It’s a huge club and I think the other option was to go to Manchester United. He’s probably got another two or three good years but in your mid-30s it becomes very hard for the forwards to score goals because you lose a bit of pace and things become harder.

If he had gone to Manchester United, what are the chances of him winning the league there? I think the chances are next to nothing. I can’t see United winning the league in the next three seasons at least. Kane made the decision to come here and going abroad is always a good experience to broaden your horizon and learn a new language.

There are reasons for and against, it’s just a shame that he might end up without a trophy in his first season because that was the main reason he came here.

Are Jadon Sancho’s Chances of Becoming a Top Player Over?

Usually, if something like this happens then the squad should take care of it themselves, somebody should speak to him and say either you get onboard or you can do one, there is no two ways about it. Either you do what you’re told to help because everyone is working their socks off to be successful here, and if you don’t take part then you’ve got to go.

It’s something the squad should manage to solve. It got to the stage when Ten Hag made him train with the kids, I don’t know what happened there. I haven’t experienced something like that but you often get situations where the manager falls out with players and then you just have to make a decision. You can’t have somebody around who is disruptive and doesn’t want to be part of the group, and at the same time the squad don’t want that.

Sancho started really well back at Dortmund but he has hit a bit of a dip now after not playing for such a long time, he started well but I think he has fallen in a bit of a hole physically and I hope he can get out of it and get back to the form that got him the move to United, because what he did at Dortmund before he left was sensational.

The director of football Sebastian Kehl said yesterday that the price for Ian Maatsen and Sancho is more than they have in the bank. He is saying that he wants to bring the price down or they will loan him again, but they can’t afford to buy him.

If he finishes the season well, they are still in the Champions League and have a good chance of making the quarter-finals. There might be other clubs in England that are interested but I think he knows what he’s got in Dortmund, I can see him staying for another season.

Hamann’s Reaction To Thomas Tuchel’s Comments About Him

It’s never personal, when I speak about something I can only judge what I see on the football field, what I’ve seen in the last 12 months is not very good. They’ve won some games but that’s been down to individual quality with Kane and Sane, who was brilliant before going quiet. They have brilliant players.

This is my job to say what I see, he didn’t take it well but it’s part of the game. If I see him I’ll shake his hand and have a chat with him if he wants to. It’s nothing personal. I have nothing against him, he’s a very successful manager doing well in Paris and Chelsea and he might end up in England again because he had his biggest success there and there might be a market in the summer.

Managers have to defend themselves and their players but it’s never personal, it’s about what happens on the pitch, if they don’t like it then so be it, I can’t control the reaction of managers or people who don’t like comments, it’s just part of the game and doesn’t bother me.
