Derry’s Form
Derry started their 2024 season in close to perfect fashion topping Division 1 with six wins and only one defeat from their opening seven matches. In the Division 1 Final they drew against Dublin 2-21 to 3-18 before winning on penalties 1-3. Despite the good feeling, they were knocked out of the Ulster Championship first time of asking losing 0-17 to 4-11 against eventual Championship winners Donegal.
In the All Ireland Groups, they finished third in a tough group coming behind Armagh and Galway but their two points at least meant they finished ahead of Westmeath. In the Preliminary Quarter Final they drew 1-12 to 0-15 against Mayo but booked their ticket by winning 3-4 on penalties. Their All-Ireland journey eventually came to an end when they lost 0-15 to 0-10 against Kerry.
Derry were hammered 2-13 to 1-09 by Tyrone and most recently lost a thriller at Celtic Park 1-24 to 5-15 against Kerry meaning they’re winless in their opening two fixtures.
Galway’s Form
Last year Galway performed poorly in Division with their record of two wins, one draw and four defeats meaning they only narrowly avoided relegation to Division 2. However, they came alive in the Connacht Football Championship beating Sligo in a 0-14 to 1-13 scoreline and going on to win the final 0-16 to 0-15 against Mayo.
At the All-Ireland stage, they finished second in a tough group with Armagh, Derry and Westmeath only missing out on top spot by a points difference of +7 to advance to a preliminary Quarter-Final.
Galway then would go on a run to the All-Ireland Final, winning their preliminary game 0-14 to 0-11 against Monaghan. Shocking the Dubs in Dublin in a 0-16 to 0-17 thriller and booking their place in the final with a 0-15 to 1-14 win over Donegal eventually losing the final 1-11 to 0-13 against Armagh.
In their opening league game Galway won 1-12 to 0-9 against Armagh and followed that up with another brilliant victory 0-16 to 0-26 against Mayo.

Conor Glass
Since returning from the AFL in 2020, the midfielder has been credited with helping to “Change the whole landscape of Gaelic Football in Derry” There are not many compliments if any greater than you could give a footballer. But that is exactly what is being argued about the 27-year-old who assumed the captaincy of his county last season.

The Galway Corner Forward who plays his club GAA most recently with Kilmacud Crokes has been his county's talismatic forward for some time and is undoubtedly one of the finest forwards in the country.
