The semi-final heats for the BoyleSports Champion Stakes lived up to the hype on Saturday night at Shelbourne Park with Deadly Destroyer now dominating the betting for the €20,000 final.

Trained by Karol Ramsbottom, the aptly named Deadly Destroyer did just that in the opening heat as he busted from boxes and made all in a fast time of 29.40.

His odds were cut into 9/2 from 6/1 before his heat on Saturday night but following his flashy performance he is now the new 8/11 favourite to win the big prize for his owner Gary Hannon meaning he is the worst result in the book for the sponsors.

This son of Droopys Jet – Cruel Intentions made the final of the Produce Stakes earlier this year and is a major player now for the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

Recent Corn Cuchulainn winner Priceless Jet was 3½ lengths back in second place to Deadly Destroyer with this Paul Hennessy trained star now 5/1 from 14/1 making him the second favourite.

It doesn’t get much better than this with Deadly Destroyer the one they have to beat after his 29.40 win with his odds into 8/11 from a high of 6/1. It’s going to be an epic final.""

The second heat winner was the talented Kilara Icon who impressed from trap one for trainer Robert Gleeson in a time of 29.74. He remains friendless in the betting as the 12/1 outsider despite his excellent performance. The Brendan Matthews trained De Machine grabbed the other qualifying spot with just a neck separating the pair at the finish. De Machine has tumbled into 8/1 from 16/1.

The final heat went to wonderful Ballymac Wild who never fails to impress. Trained by Liam Dowling, Wild made the most on his return back to HQ having ran in the final of the English Greyhound Derby earlier this month. He skipped home in 29.61 with the pacey Beach Avenue four lengths back in second place. Ballymac Wild is 11/2 from 10/1 while Beach Avenue is 8/1 from 16/1.

What a night. Great to be back at HQ @shelbournepark

Best of luck to all the finalists in the €20,000 @BoyleSports Champion Stakes ? pic.twitter.com/MacP25dkfF
