Cork v Tipperary Preview
Cork’s Form
Cork commenced the 2025 season by storm in Division 1A in the National Hurling League, finishing the regular competition with a record of 4 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, finishing behind fellow finalists Tipperary in the initial league phase. In that final, they avenged their earlier defeat to Tipperary to win, 0-23 to 3-24 for a 10-point victory. Following that success, plenty saw them as All-Ireland winners in waiting.
They then opened their Munster Championship campaign, where they played out a 2–24 to 3–21 draw with Clare in Cusack Park. However, it was in their second game against Tipperary where their potential flowed through again, trouncing Tipperary, this time 4-27 to -0-24 for a 15-point win. Limerick sent them a reality check in the next game, though, battering them by a staggering 16 points in an abject display. Had it not been for their 6-point win over Waterford in their Championship campaign would have been over prematurely.
There were huge questions about what Cork we would see performing when they returned to the Gaelic Grounds to play Limerick in the Munster Final. What followed was a classic game where they had drawn 2-27 to 1-30 AET before they won out dramatically 2-3 on penalties. If it wasn’t clear before then their potential was then certain.
Drawn with Dublin for their All-Ireland semi-final, the heir of expectancy behind The Rebel County meant that they had to convincingly beat the Dubs and even then they were likely not likely to earn many plaudits for doing so. What proceeded was an exceptional beatdown of their opponents in a 7–26 to 2–21 scoreline.
Tipperary’s Form
The Premier County entered into the 2025 All-Ireland Hurling Championship following a strong league campaign where they topped the initial league phase of Division 1A with a record of 5 wins and 1 loss to finish 1 point ahead of Cork, whom they beat in Round 4 in Semple Stadium 2-22 to 1-21 to reach the league final. However, that result was reversed in the Final, where they lost in Pairc Ui Chaoimh against Cork 0-23 to 3-24.
Like their fellow All-Ireland finalists, they also opened their Munster Championship with a draw, with there being a 2-23 a piece draw with Limerick at Semple Stadium. Few knew what to expect of them, but they were, then again, battered by Cork in their next game, losing by a 15-point margin, 4-27 to 0-24 in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. They finished the Group Stage with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, which saw them drop into the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-finals.
In their preliminary quarter-final, they made light work of Laois, winning by a staggering 23 points in a 0-18 to 3-32 scoreline. They were then comfortable winners in their quarterfinal against Galway, winning by an 8-point margin, 1–28 to 2–17.
For their All-Ireland semi-final, they were drawn in a blockbuster tie against Kilkenny. The sides had previously met earlier in the season in Division 1A of the league, where Kilkenny were defeated in Nowlan Park 1-19 (22) – 2-25 (31). This time at Croke Park, Tipperary emerged victorious again, albeit this time by a smaller margin of 2 points, 4–20 to 0–30.
Cork v Tipperary Rivalry
The Cork-Tipperary hurling rivalry began when they first met in 1741 in a field in the townland of Kildinan near Rathcormac in County Cork. They had their first championship meeting in 1888.
The Championship series is currently led by Cork 44-40, with 8 draws taking place.
In the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Cork has 30 All-Ireland Senior Hurling titles, while Tipperary has 26, making them two of the "big three" alongside Kilkenny (36 titles). Together, they’ve won 56 All-Ireland titles.

Trends
While Cork have come on the right side of the last two games between the counties, but games were both home games for Cork. Could Croker end up being a leveller on Sunday?
Key Players To Watch
Patrick Horgan - Cork
Cork captain and talisman Patrick Horgan is in a battle with Mother Time if he’s to land an elusive All-Ireland title, and this season may be his final season with the county. However, he’s yet to miss a step, still crucial to Cork's challenge, and his tally of 3-50 puts him fourth in the top Championship scorers.
In the All-Ireland semi-final triumph over Dublin, he hit a tally of 0-8, and you can expect another huge showing from him on Sunday, given his unparalleled consistency on the inter-county scene since 2008.

Jason Forde - Tipperary
The Nenagh club man and Full Forward Jason Forde (31) is also still going strong, having made his Championship debut for Tipperary in 2013 and usually lines out for his county as Left Corner Forward.
This season, he has been Tipperary’s top scorer with a tally of 3-44 across 7 matches for an average of 7.57 points per game. In their semi-final victory against Kilkenny, they finished with a tally of 1-5.

Cork v Tipperary Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Cork 3-20 Tipperary 0-25
Liam McCarthy hasn’t returned to Leeside since their 2005 victory over Galway when they won 1-21 to 1-16 against Galway. What followed has been a two-decade drought, though they were beaten finalists in 2013, 2021 and 2024.
The Premier County has seen All-Ireland success more recently, with their last victory coming in 2019 when they defeated Kilkenny 3-25 to 0-20, which was the last time they reached the final. Since then, the county has undergone a period of transition, but the county is certainly an emerging force again.
Cork have been the standard bearers in the 2025 All Ireland Hurling Championship and head into this game as worthy favourites, but they must guard against complacency, with 2/3 of their last final defeats coming when they were considered favourites.
Tipperary have deservingly reached this stage, and though they’ve lost 2/3 of their games against Cork in 2025, both came in Cork, and so they can’t be ruled out of winning this game.
I expect it to be closer than most do, but I still think Cork should be far too good in the end for Tipperary.
