Coral Cup Preview

When is the Coral Cup?

The Coral Cup is set to take place today at 14:50 at Cheltenham.

Coral Cup Distance

The race is run on the Old Course at Cheltenham over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs (4,225 metres), and during its running, there are ten hurdles to be jumped.

Coral Cup Favourite

The favourite to win the 2024 Coral Cup is the W P Mullins-trained horse Sa Mjeste for JP McManus at odds of 9/2 Those odds imply that the horse has an 18.2% chance of winning the 2024 Coral Cup

Sa Majaste has two victories and one third-place finish from four outings and its latest success came at Limerick last December where it returned from a 243-day break to come four and a half lengths ahead of Noble Yeats

Coral Cup Betting

Betting for this race is a wide-open affair, with market leader Sa Majeste for W P Mullins at 9/2 closely followed in the market by defending champion Langer Dan who is trained by Dan Skelton at 7/1

Built By Ballymore who more lightly raced for Martin Brassil and Doddiethegreat for Nicky Henderson can both be gotten at 8/1. Bar 12/1.

Coral Cup Tips

Keith Melrose: Will take plenty of stopping if he sneaks in at the foot of the weights

Coral Cup Betting Trends

The Coral Cup is open to horses four years or older, but it usually brings up slightly more experienced campaigners with 10 of the last 12 winners aged between 6-8 years.

The betting market for this race is wide-open and that’s no surprise with 1 of the last 12 winners priced as favourites, 2/12 winners were in the top 3 in the betting, and 9/12 were priced 12/1 or bigger. It could be a race to pluck an outsider at a big price!

Interestingly only 2 winners have had more than 9 hurdle runs but they both have come in the last 2 editions of this race with Commander Of Fleet in 2022 (13 hurdle runs) and Langer Dan last year (16).
