Tale of the Tape
Conor McGregor
Nickname: The Notorious
Hometown: Dublin, Ireland
Pre-fight record: 22-6 (19 KO’s)
Age: 32
Height: 5ft 9 inch
Style: Southpaw
Recognition: Conor McGregor may have suffered a considerable fall from grace in recent years both inflicted and self-inflicted, but the stats don’t lie either. He was the first MMA fighter to win UFC championships in two weight classes simultaneously and is also the biggest PPV draw in the sport headlining five highest-selling UFC PPV events. However, it remains to be seen how good of a fighter he can be now having lost 3 of his last 4 fights.
Michael Chandler
Nickname: Iron
Hometown: Missouri, USA
Pre-fight record: 21-5 (9 KO’s)
Age: 37
Height: 5ft 8 inch
Style: Orthodox
Recognition: Michal Chandler is a fighter in the UFC Lightweight Division, although like Conor has been less active in recent years with his last fight coming against Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022 where he lost by Submission which was his 3rd loss in his last 4 bouts. Chandler is also a three-time Bellator Lightweight Champion though his best days like McGregor may be behind him.
Verdict
This bout, while sure to be an entertaining spectacle, pre, post and during the fight, will see two fighters pitted against each other who are both likely in the twilight of their careers.
However, McGregor who is 2 years younger has received plenty of criticism for being “finished” as a serious fighter and I do think he should have enough to win here if he takes it even semi-serious.
