Club Brugge v Aston Villa Preview

Club Brugge’s Form

Club Brugge had a fantastic 23/24 season whereby they initially finished 4th in the Belgian Pro League regular season but would go on to win the Champions Play-Offs following a strong end-of-season run.  Away from the league they reached the semis of both the Belgian Cup and Europa Conference League.  This season they’re second in the Belgian Pro League currently trailing Genk by nine points with twelve games remaining.

The Belgian outfit have been one of the competition's surprise packages, initially qualifying for the knockout phase playoffs with an eleven-point total putting meaning they earned the final spot via a better goal difference to Dinamo Zagreb (-4 vs -7). The highlight of the league phase was their 1-0 win over Aston Villa.  They safely navigated their passage to this phase of the competition with a 2-5 aggregate victory over Atalanta winning both legs 2-1 and 1-3 respectively.

Nobody expected Brugge to get this far but they’ve shown they can beat Villa earlier in the competition so must be respected by potential punters.

Aston Villa’s Form

Aston Villa under Unai Emery have become one of the most consistent sides around for both their Domestic and European form Last season they qualified for this competition by finishing 4th in the league and a Conference League Semi-Final. They’ve balanced both Domestic and European commitments well so far this season especially considering they had a net spend of €-32.50m during the summer window.

It’s been a positive season for Villa with their weekend win over Cardiff putting them into an FA Cup Quarter-Final. In the Premier League, they’re tenth two behind Newcastle in sixth place. The highlight has been their Champions League performances though where their sixteen-point total saw them na the final automatic Round of 16 slots.

Villa are former European Cup winners and look well placed to book their place into the Quarter-Finals in the next couple of weeks.

Key Players To Watch

Christos Tzolis - Club Brugge

The Greek LW (23) has been the club's most consistent goal threat in the 24/25 season so far with 13 goals and 9 assists across 41 games in all competitions and has been recently linked with a move to Everton.

He is 9/1 to score first and 10/3 to score at any point in this game.

Christos Tzolis anytime goal - 10/3

Marcus Rashford - Aston Villa

There’s very little to say that hasn’t been said when it comes to Marcus Rashford (27) both in a positive and negative sense. However, the one thing that can’t be dismissed is despite his clear talent, his stock has fallen considerably, which is why he was sent to Aston Villa on loan.

Rashford has shown glimpses of a return to some sort of confidence and form in recent weeks when free from the shackles of expectation at Man United including a brace of assists against Chelsea and one at the weekend against Cardiff. Yet to score for Villa he is priced at 8/1 to score first or  3/1 to score at any point in this game.

Marcus Rashford anytime goal - 3/1

Club Brugge v Aston Villa Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Club Brugge 0-1 Aston Villa

Club Brugge have already shown they can beat Villa earlier in the competition, but are coming into the game in less consistent form than last time.

Villa are a strong side and could be a potential dark horse in the next few months of the competition,

I expect Villa to win the game on this occasion.

Best Bet: Aston Villa + Under 3.5 Total Goals @ 21/10

Aston Villa + Under 3.5 Total Goals -21/10
