Gamble grows on Gunner following Lionesses glory
England star Chloe Kelly is now a key contender for the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for playing a crucial part in the Lionesses’ Euro 2025 victory in Switzerland.
BOYLE Sports has slashed the odds on the Arsenal forward grabbing the gong into just 7/4 (from 66/1) after she came off the bench to tee up Alessia Russo’s equaliser and hit the winning spot-kick as England overcame Spain on penalties to be crowned European Champions in Basel.
The gamble means Kelly is now second favourite for the accolade traditionally dished out in December, while goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who made two saves in the nail-biting shootout, is now 6/1 third favourite.
Mcllroy Remains Frontrunner
Rory McIlroy remains the frontrunner according to the oddsmakers, but the golfing superstar has been eased to even money (from 4/7) after Sarina Wiegmann’s side overcame underdog status to lift the silverware in the final.
The Northern Irishman made history at The Masters in April by completing a career grand slam of all four major championships, and he could be celebrating again by the end of the season as he prepares to star on the European side bound for New York in September to defend the Ryder Cup from Team USA.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Rory McIlroy may still lead the way with a green jacket on his back, but Chloe Kelly’s Euro-winning exploits have certainly kicked off a real contest in the SPOTY stakes.”
