Irish raiders have dominated steeplechasing’s blue riband event in recent years but we’re taking an early look at the 2026 Cheltenham Gold Cup odds to examine Britain’s chances of bucking that trend.
Last season’s winner Inothewayurthinkin and two-time former champion Galopin Des Champs head the ante-post betting as the Emerald Isle seeks an eighth straight Gold Cup success.
However, there are several hopes of securing a first home triumph since Colin Tizzard's popular warrior Native River struck in 2018.

Dan Skelton's charge made a superb seasonal reappearance when landing the Betfair Chase under an ice-cool ride and the Gold Cup is now his top target, with just one more prep run planned.
The trainer insisted lessons have been learned from last term, when Grey Dawning followed a gruelling second in the same Haydock contest by being pulled up in the King George a month later.
Grey Dawning sidestepped Cheltenham last March but did score in fine style as a novice at the 2024 Festival and is rated Britain’s brightest hope in the 2026 Gold Cup odds.
“I do think he’s a contender for the Gold Cup ,” insisted Skelton . “I have huge respect for the favourite ( Inothewayurthinkin ) and we have to step up again, but they’ll have seen that today and maybe think we are players.”

It may feel like a stretch to go straight from landing the two-mile Arkle as a novice to tackling the top stayers over an extended 3m 2f but Jango Baie's running style gives encouragement that his stamina could hold out.
He powered home to a nine-length victory over 2m 5f when returning to action at Ascot and a big run in the King George may force connections to think about going even further.
Nicky Henderson certainly knows what it takes to claim Gold Cup glory, having struck with Long Run in 2011 and Bobs Worth two years later.

A head second in the 2024 Albert Bartlett over three miles in testing conditions suggests the Gold Cup distance is not an issue here.
The Jukebox Man's novice chasing campaign was unfortunately cut short by injury following a fine triumph in the Grade One Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day. Still, he proved his well-being when accounting for Iroko at Haydock after 11 months off.
Carrying the colours of FA Cup -winning manager Harry Redknapp, this exuberant jumper has plenty of scope for more improvement and his handler Ben Pauling beamed: “He’s an exciting horse who has never really had to be extended to win over fences.”

Last season’s National Hunt Chase and BOYLE Sports Irish Grand National hero blotted his copybook with a Betfair Chase “no-show”, when champion jockey Sean Bowen was sending out distress signals at the rear of the field from an early stage and eventually pulled up his mount.
However, Rebecca Curtis subsequently insisted she has not lost any faith in her stable star and dismissed any notion that he simply had his limitations exposed at Haydock.
The trainer declared: “He just had an off-day, I don’t think it was anything to do with it being a Graded race or (a lack of) ability…I know he’s still a good horse, we’ll just get it right the next day.”
