Cheltenham Hurdle 1

Check out our Cheltenham Day 3 tips from BoyleSports Horse Racing Ambassador Robbie Power ahead of the Festival’s penultimate day of action.

The feature race of the day is the 15:20 Ryanair Chase, which is followed by another Grade 1 at 16:00 in the form of the Stayers’ Hurdle. Robbie has given us his predictions for the two big races plus his Cheltenham Festival day 3 NAP.

Cheltenham Day 3 Tips From Robbie Power

Ryanair Chase Tips & Preview – 15:20

I’m against Fact To File (5/4) in this race. I think he was very good in the John Durkan [at Punchestown in November] when he got up to beat Spillane’s Tower but he has disappointed me since then. I know he was behind Galopin Des Champs [at Leopardstown in December and February], and there’s no real negative in being beaten by Galopin Des Champs, but it is what has been around him is the thing that is putting me off Fact To File.

This race is going to be run at a very, very strong pace. Envoi Allen (16/1) has definitely got an each-way chance. I think he’s overpriced. The ground is drying out all the time, and at 16/1 I’d be having a few quid each way on Envoi Allen. The way the race is going to pan out – it’s going to set up for a horse coming from off the pace. Dan Skelton is going to very forceful on Protektorat (16/1). Il Est Francais (3/1) goes forward.

There’s plenty of pace in this race, and it could just be set up for a horse coming from off the pace. Envoi Allen’s form around Cheltenham is rock solid and I think he’s got a very good each-way chance.

I think Teahupoo (6/4) will be very hard to beat. I know people have concerns about the ground but I think he’s stamina-dependent, not ground-dependent. The 3 miles overcomes the drying ground; it’s on the easy side, that should be fine for him, and I think Teahupoo will be hard to beat.

My worry for him is the lack of pace in the race, and if this turns into a sprint it’ll play into the hands of a horse like Bob Olinger (20/1), who has done nothing wrong this season. He has been 2nd twice to Home By The Lee (6/1), and I can’t see Bob Olinger outside of the first three. And on this ground, he’ll be ridden to run well and come in with one late run. He’ll definitely be on the bridle going to the last. If he can get up the hill he has got a big chance.
