We have a Cheltenham Day 3 recap for you as the dust settles on Tuesday's action from Prestbury Park.
Cheltenham Day 3 Recap
There was a great start for Cheltenham punters on Wednesday afternoon, but bookmakers were breathing a sigh of relief after hot favourite El Fabiolo was pulled up in the big race of the day, the Champion Chase.
Willie Mullins’ 2/9 odds-on hotpot posed huge liabilities for oddsmakers before the off after Ballyburn and Fact To File both obliged for favourite backers in the opening two races on the second day of the Festival.
Captain Guinness Wins Champion Chase
But an early mistake put paid to his chances as Rachael Blackmore capitalised to win the race on 17/2 shot Captain Guinness. The result brought bookies back from the brink as they were on the ropes already thanks to five Willie Mullins winners over the first two days, while his sixth in the Champion Bumper brought his winners tally at the Festival to 100.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:
“Punters were jumping for joy when Willie’s first two favourites bolted up, but El Fabiolo threatened major damage so we’re saying cheers to Captain Guinness who definitely pulled a rabbit out of the hat for us.”
