Cheltenham Day 1 Tips: Bryan Cooper & Robbie Power's Tuesday Festival Predictions

The time has come. The Cheltenham Festival is here and we have Cheltenham Day 1 tips from our BoyleSports Horse Racing Ambassadors Bryan Cooper and Robbie Power.

Cheltenham Day 1 Tips From Bryan Cooper & Robbie Power

Perfect Jumping Ground For Day 1 at the Cheltenham Festival

Bryan Cooper: There was a bit of rain last night but I don’t think it has done any harm at all. I think the ground will suit every horse now, it’s good to soft now and a little ease in it so the rain was needed.

There’s a strong breeze there today so I’d say they were delighted it came last night.

Robbie Power: Yeah, exactly. As Brian says, it’s perfect jumping ground.

Champion Hurdle Tips

Robbie Power: We’re divided opinions here for the Champion Hurdle. I’m with Constitution Hill and Bryan; you’re going for the mare Brigtherdaysahead.

Bryan Cooper: I’m going to stick with my gut, I just think Brighterdaysahead might get a bit of a lead and if she’s 5 or 6 lengths clear off the bend it’ll be ‘catch me if you can’.

I met Shane McCann there this morning who has been riding her out and he said ‘she won’t know which way she’s gone’ and he’s a very good judge.

Look, it’s a great race. I can’t wait to watch it. It’s probably one of the races of the meeting and whichever horse wins I’d say they’re going to get some cheer when they come in through that crowd.

Robbie Power’s Champion Hurdle Tip: Constitution Hill – 4/6

Ultima Handicap Chase

Bryan Cooper: In the Ultima I like Crebilly of Jonjo O’Neill. He was unlucky last year, he missed a couple of fences, this step up in trip will suit him. I think the ground will be good for him. If he gets his jumping together I can see him finishing a place or two closer than he was last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes off a lot shorter closer to the off.

Robbie Power: I give Henry de Bromhead’s horse The Short Go a good each-way chance with BoyleSports paying the first 6 places. He was 2nd over course and distance here back in October and I think on this ground he has a very good each-way chance at a decent price.

Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Tips

Bryan Cooper: This race is very open. Obviously there’s a lot of talk about Stencil, the top horse, and Gavin Cromwell’s horse Total Look. But I like Joseph O’Brien’s horse Puturhandstogether. Mark Walsh has picked him, which is very interesting even though the horse J J Slevin rides was a bit shorter in the betting. I’d say the more the ground drys out throughout the day it will suit him and Joseph has a very good record in this race and I’d say Mark Walsh is on the right one.

Robbie Power: Yeah, Joseph definitely knows what it takes to win the Fred Winter. I like Gavin Cromwell’s horse Total Look, the choice of Keith Donoghue. I think the drying ground will suit him. I give Total Look a good each-way chance.

Cheltenham Day 1 NAPs

Bryan Cooper: Kopek Des Bordes in the first race [the Michael O’Sullivan Supreme Novices’ Hurdle] is my Nap for day 1. I saw him this morning down the gallops. I know it’s a bit different but he seems to be chilled out. He might get a little bit worked up, they’ve put the hood on him. He has the best ability in the race. I think Paul Townend will manage to control him early doors and he’ll get the favourite backers off to a flying start.

Robbie Power: I think Majborough is rock solid in the Arkle but my banker for the day is Constitution Hill in the Champion Hurdle.
