Cheltenham 2017 Day 4 - Gold Cup Preview & Tips

Djakadam
A blank opening two days and Douvan beaten at 1/4 in the Champion Chase...it’s been a trying couple of days for Willie Mullins but that can all change with the Gold Cup bound for Closutton for the first time.

Djak The Lad
Despite all the disappointment over the first two days, the Mullins horses can’t be accused of running badly. Douvan was clearly amiss, Melon ran well, as did Vroum Vroum Mag and Limini, while Next Destination finished fourth in the bumper and then Yorkhill resumed normal service in the first on Thursday.

Djakadam comes to Cheltenham attempting to make it third time lucky in the Gold Cup and he can do exactly that.

Tizzard Form
Empire Of Dirt pitching up in the Ryanair is a plus. The form of Colin Tizzard’s horses going into day three of the Festival were 00PPP0P20 so that would have to alarm anyone that wanted to back Native River or Cue Card.

Native River would have a chance on his form this season but not so much Cue Card who looks a bit flattered by the form.

Djakadam has had a clean bill of health in the lead up to this race and has proven he stays, can compete at this level, and although second twice, he has also proven his fondness for the venue.

I think he ticks a lot of boxes and will prove hard to beat. ""
