We have a Chelsea v Liverpool prediction plus odds for you as we preview one of the big matches of the Premier League's opening weekend.
When? 4.30 pm, Sunday 13th August
What Channel? Sky Sports Premier League, Sky Sports Main Event
Liverpool – 13/10
Draw – 12/5
Chelsea are 2/1 to land Mauricio Pochettino his first win as Chelsea boss in the Premier League, Liverpool are 13/10 to land Klopp a statement first-game victory and the draw could prove value at 12/5.
They enter this season with another new manager at the helm with the appointment of the former Tottenham and PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino becoming official on the 1st of July.
Pochettino inherited an extremely large squad and despite seeing seventeen players go out the door for this season already through varying degrees, they’ve brought in a further six signings for over £200 million with several returning loanees also expected to come into the first-team.
It remains very chaotic at The Bridge and it’s very difficult to know who will breakthrough as part of their desired first 11. I’d expect it to be a few weeks before that becomes clear.
Nevertheless, there is a lot of genuine quality in the Chelsea squad and if they can integrate new signings Nkunku (when he returns from injury) and Disasi amongst others and the returning Gusto, Maatesen and Colwill they could shock a few this season. Their pre-season was solid too with three wins and two draws, they will be an interesting side to watch in the coming weeks.
Klopp will be expected to martial his troops on again this season and return closer to the top of the table.
There’s been a lot of change at the club during the off-season with departures. The strong baulk of the midfield, Milner, Keita, Chamberlain, Henderson and Fabinho and striker Firminho all leaving the club.
Liverpool have made some decent acquisitions in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai which will freshen up the squad, but what remains to be seen is whether enough bodies have gone through the door at Anfield to replace the considerable amount of experience lost.
Pre-Season has been interesting for the club with three wins, one defeat and one draw in their five official matches. However, one cause for concern is despite scoring eighteen goals across their five matches they also conceded eleven goals. This could be put down to defensive fragility but I think it could also be due to the loss of steel in midfield.
There will be a lot to learn about this side in the coming weeks and I wouldn’t rule out a midfield addition or two before the window closes.

Liverpool 0-Chelsea | Premier League, 21 January 2023
Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool (Liverpool won 5-6 on pens) | FA Cup, 14 May 2022

Chelsea v Liverpool Preview
Chelsea
Chelsea had a horrible 22/23 season finishing 12th in the bottom half of the table for the first time since the 95/96 season when they were managed by Glenn Hoddle. Their poor season is no surprise given the nature of the club that they went through four managers.

Liverpool
Liverpool had a disappointing season last year having entered the season as EFL Cup and FA Cup champions. They would end the season trophyless and finishing arguably an even more disappointing fifth-place in the Premier League.Klopp will be expected to martial his troops on again this season and return closer to the top of the table.
There’s been a lot of change at the club during the off-season with departures. The strong baulk of the midfield, Milner, Keita, Chamberlain, Henderson and Fabinho and striker Firminho all leaving the club.
