Olympiacos vs Pafos
OLYMPIACOS HT/FT AGAINST PAFOS @ 23/20
Olympiacos have a poor recent record in the Champions League group/league phase, losing 16 of their last 20 matches, but they should get off to a winning start against Cypriot newcomers Pafos.
The Greek giants have won all three of their Super League games without conceding a goal this season, and they will be keen to continue that form against Pafos before meeting arch-rivals Panathinaikos on Sunday.
Pafos are playing at this stage of the Champions League for the first time after winning their maiden Cypriot title last season, and it has been some journey already, overcoming Maccabi Tel Aviv, Dynamo Kiev and Red Star Belgrade just to reach this point.
They have scored in 13 of their last 14 European games, so clearly know where the goal is, but lost 1-0 at home to Apollon Limassol at the weekend and, with Olympiacos boasting an impressive European home record, we’re backing the Greeks to take the spoils.
PSG vs Atalanta
PSG TO BEAT ATALANTA & BTTS @ 17/10
Paris St Germain have been handed a daunting set of fixtures to start their Champions League title defence, and, with the likes of Barcelona, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich to come, they will view the visit of Atalanta as a potentially must-win game.
PSG picked up only four points from their opening five games of last season’s revamped competition before recovering to lift their first Champions League crown, but we’re backing Luis Enrique’s men, who have started the new campaign with four successive league wins since their dramatic UEFA Super Cup victory over Tottenham, to get up to speed quickly this year.
Atalanta, Europa League winners in 2024, have been one of Italy’s top teams in recent years and have made a steady start under new boss Ivan Juric, picking up five points from three games in Serie A, but they are underdogs heading to Paris.
What we are not expecting is a goalless draw. PSG have gone 100 successive European matches since their last 0-0 stalemate, while Atalanta have scored in 21 of their last 23 games in UEFA competitions.
Ajax vs Inter Milan
AJAX AND INTER MILAN TO DRAW & BTTS @ 7/2
A repeat of the 1972 European Cup final, which the Dutch club won 2-0 in Rotterdam, this will be the first meeting between the two European powerhouses in 20 years.
The Amsterdam outfit have a poor record against Italian teams and have had a mixed start to the new Eredivisie season, winning their three home games but being held to two draws away, and they face a tough trip to perennial title rivals PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.
However, before that clash, they must face an Inter side who have had a topsy-turvy start to the season under new boss Cristian Chivu. They thrashed Tornio 5-0 in their opening game, but since then have lost at home to Udinese and away to Juventus, shipping six goals in the process.
The Nerazzurri have a good record against Dutch sides, though, winning nine of their last 13 matches without tasting defeat, and we think they can continue that record at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
Slavia Prague vs BODO-Glimt
SLAVIA PRAGUE TO BEAT BODO/GLIMT & UNDER 3.5 GOALS IN TOTAL @ 19/10
Slavia Prague have started the Czech season in red-hot form, picking up 20 points from a possible 24 so far to lead the standings ahead of city rivals Sparta, and they will expect a victory from their first meeting with Bodo/Glimt.
However, Bodo/Glimt proved their European credentials during their run to the 2023/24 Europa League semi-finals as well as this season’s 6-2 play-off mauling of Sturm Graz, which saw them become the first Norwegian side to reach this stage of the Champions League since Rosenborg in 2007/08.
They have lost six of their last seven away matches in UEFA competition, however, and with 18-time Czech champions Slavia no strangers to this tournament, we’re expecting the hosts to edge it.
