Champions League Football 2023 24

In this post, we take a look at the Champions League odds 2023/24 where there is a familiar name at the top of the betting market.

Manchester City finally fulfilled their potential last season, winning the Champions League for the first time. This victory meant they became only the second English side to complete the illustrious treble of a Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League crown in the same season after Manchester United's success in the 1998/99 season.

Manchester City looked unstoppable for the majority of last season, with nobody really causing them any problems in any competition. However, it remains to be seen whether they can continue their dominance this season, in the Champions League with retaining the competition a even more tall task

This post takes a look at who are the main contenders to challenge Pep Guardiola's side this season. Let's have a look at the latest UEFA Champions League Betting Odds for the 2023-24 tournament.

Champions League 23/24 Betting Favourites

Manchester City – 7/4

Man City are the favourites to land the 2023/24 Champions League at odds of 7/4. Those odds imply that City have a 36.4% chance of defending their title this season.

Manchester City finally took the competition by storm last season to win the 22/23 Champions League. They had long been fancied by the bookmakers and went into most recent seasons as competition favourites but had never been able to get over the hump previously.

In last year's final they beat Inter Milan 1-0 thanks to a goal from holding midfielder Rodri. Throughout the competition, they went unbeaten, winning eight matches, drawing five, scoring 32 goals in the process and only conceding 5.

This season City opened their Champions League title defence in ruthless fashion steamrolling their Champions League Group G with RB Leipzig, Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade winning 6 from 6 matches scoring 18 goals and conceding only 7 goals.

They were then handed a relatively favourable draw for the Round of 16 against Copenhagen and dispatched them 3-1 in both legs for a 6-2 aggregate victory. There's a strong sense of de ja vú with their Quarter Final draw against Champions League specialists Real Madrid, following their clash at the Semi-Final stage last year which City won 1-5.

The winner of this tie will play either Arsenal or Bayern Munich for a place in the final.

Arsenal– 9/2

The second favourites for the 2023/24 Champions League are Arsenal at odds of 9/2. Those odds imply that Arsenal have an 18.2% chance of landing their first-ever Champions League trophy.

Mikel Arteta has done a stellar job with Arsenal since being appointed in December 2019 transforming a mid-table Arsenal side into one which is widely fancied to contend at the business end of both the Premier League and Champions League.

However, with progress comes added pressure and to date, they've only had an FA Cup success in 2020 and Community Shield wins (if they count) in 2020 and 2023 to boost under Arteta. This season was always going to be a big one and they're fighting on both League and Champions League fronts even if they're playing the betting bridesmaid to Man City for both.

Arsenal won Group B in the Champions League amassing 13 points from their group with PSV, Lens and Sevilla scoring 16 goals and conceding 4 in the process. They faced a scare against Porto in the Round of 16 overcoming a 1-0 first-leg defeat to win 4-2 on penalties. They've been drawn against Bayern in the Quarter-Final for the chance to play Man City or Real Madrid in the final.

Arsenal have never won this competition with their best performance being in 2006 when they lost 2-1 to Barcelona. However, they're in strong form unbeaten in their last seven matches and with every chance of success come the business end of the season.

Real Madrid – 6/1

The joint third favourite for the 2023/24 Champions League are Real Madrid at odds of 6/1. Those odds imply that Real Madrid have a 14.3% chance of continuing their illustrious history in the competition and tag as "European Specialists".

The club lost some major names last summer including members of former Champions League winning squads with Marco Asensio, Karim Benzema, Mariano Diaz, and Eden Hazard all leaving. It had plenty of people pondering whether there was too much of an experience drain in the squad. However, they were aptly replaced by the likes of Arda Güler and the headliner Jude Bellingham and have been even stronger this year currently leading La Liga.

Real were rampant winners of Group C with a perfect 6 wins from 6 matches from their group with Napoli, Braga and Union Berlin scoring 16 goals and conceding 7in the process. They overcame Leipzig in the Round of 16 with a 0-1 first-leg win and a 1-1 second-leg draw. However, they face City in the Quarter-Final (the side that knocked them out of last year's Semi-Final) which could be a tall task.

Despite the draw, they'll be out to right the wrongs of last season and you can never write Real off in Europe.

Bayern Munich – 6/1

The joint third favourites for the 2023/24 Champions League are Bayern Munich at odds of 6/1. Those odds imply that Bayern have a 14.3% chance of winning this season's competition.

Bayern Munich were the side I tipped to win the Champions League last season, but that prediction came unstuck at the quarter-final stage to eventual champions Man City, with their 3-0 first-leg defeat in Manchester too much to come back from as they crashed out of the competition 4-1 on aggregate.

Bayern seemingly went out and bought that missing piece of the jigsaw in Harry Kane during the summer for €100,000,000 it was clear they meant business for the 2023/24 season. However, that hasn't quite occurred with the club struggling in the league trailing Leverkusen by 10 points with 8 games remaining.

The Champions League has been a happier hunting ground for them though. Bayern won Group A against Copenhagen, Galatasaray and Man United with 16 points, 12 goals and 6 conceded. They then overcame A 1-0 first-leg defeat against Lazio to win 3-1 on aggregate.

Despite their poor league form at a minimum, I fancy their chances against Arsenal.

PSG – 8/1

With the riches on offer accompanied by the genuine superstar talent that has played with PSG in recent seasons, they should have won at least one Champions League title, never mind multiple. However, in my opinion, an absence of the ability to recruit the "right" players rather than the "best" players has stopped them from troubling the European elite.

The story of their summer was the persistent speculation that Kylian Mbappé was Real Madrid bound which would've been a huge loss for the club which had recently lost Messi and Neymar. However, Mbappé remained and while his time with seems very much time-bound could he leave following a final PSG Champions League success?

PSG were landed in Champions League Group F which quickly became dubbed the "Group of Death" with Borussia Dortmund, Milan and Newcastle United. It turned out to be very much that with Dortmund leading the way with 11 points, PSG nabbed second spot ahead of Milan with 8 points on goal difference and Newcastle finished bottom with 5 points

At the Round of 16 stage, they defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 at home and 1-2 away from home to book their Quarter-Final spot, which proved to be Barcelona. PSG have been drawn in the "weaker" half of the draw and will play the Catalan outfit for a place in the Semi-Final against Atlético or Dortmund.

PSG, unlike previous seasons, are flying very much under the radar and I feel that could certainly suit their chances.

Others

Elsewhere, 5 time winners of the competition Barcelona can be gotten at 10/1 and with World Class talent from back to front in their side even if this isn't the vintage side of their Golden Days, they could certainly win a few knockout ties with a bit of luck.

Atlético Madrid can currently be gotten at 12/1 and with Diego Simeone at the helm there is no man better placed  to steer a side into grinding out a few big performances by any means necessary.

Finally, Dortmund are the least fancied of the Quarter-Finalists to land the Champions League currently priced at 20/1. However, with that price comes the lowest expectation levels and so can go into their remaining fixtures with a dangerous free-hit mindset for their opponents.
