In this post we have a Champions League Group D preview for you along with a prediction of the final table plus all the betting odds.
Inter Milan
Red Bull Salzburg
Real Sociedad
There has been considerable change in the Inter Milan squad in the summer with Škriniar going to PSG, Brozović to Al Nassr, Onana to Manchester United and Gosens to Union Berlin. There was also the departure of Lukaku who was on loan from Chelsea. The Belgian striker has joined Roma on lona from Chelsea for this season.
While this team has lost some key players from last season they have also recruited well with some shrewd additions over the summer. Signings such as Thuram, Sommer, Pavard and Klassen amongst others should all play their role this season.
Inter Milan are 25/1 to win the tournament, 5/6 to win Group D and 3/10 to qualify out of the group stage.
In the Summer Benfica lost their top-scorer from last season Goncalo Ramos (who scored 27 goals in all competitions) who signed for PSG on loan. Weigl, Grimaldo and Vlachodimos have all also departed.
The Portuguese outfit did however bring in some big names including Di Maria, Trubin, Cabral and Bernat. Even with the arrival of these players it will still be hard to repeat their results from last year in the competition, especially in this tough group.
Benfica are 40/1 to win the tournament, 9/4 to win Group D and 4/7 to qualify out of the group stage.
This league finish was probably the highlight of their season which included a Copa del Rey Quarter-Final appearance and winning a Europa League Group including Manchester United before being eliminated in the Round of 16.
The club have maintained their core from last season with no huge departures. Sociedad have brought in some interesting names with Zakharyan signing from Dynamo Moscow for €13,000,000, Traoré for Free from Rennes, Odriozola from Real Madrid for €3,000,000 plus Silva and Tierney on loan.
Real Sociedad are 100/1 to win the tournament, 5/1 to win Group D and 11/8 to qualify out of the group stage.
This team have also started their domestic season very strongly with six league wins from their opening six matches and winning their first Cup game 0-6.
The Red Bull recruitment model is always extremely savvy, so you can be sure they brought in a lot of quality during the summer window. Mads Bidstrup from Brentford could be the one to watch from their summer additions.
Red Bull Salzburg can be gotten at a massive 250/1 to win the tournament, 8/1 to win Group D and 15/8 to qualify out of the group stage.
The 26-year-old has started this season in bouncing form again with five goals in three league appearances. When Martinez is on form he is a hard man to stop for opposing defences.
2nd - Real Sociedad
3rd - Benfica
4th - Red Bull Salzburg
Of all the Champions League Groups, this is very likely to be the most competitive of them all. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the four sides finish in any of the four positions.
With that said, my prediction is that Inter should have enough to win this one and I think Sociedad will shock a few.
