Following the action from Day 2 & 3 of the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, it’s jockey Rachael Blackmore who is attracting all the support to win the 2021 RTE Sports Person of the Year award.

The talented jockey got her 2021 Cheltenham Festival off to a winning one by landing the Grade One Champion Hurdle on the wonderful unbeaten mare, Honeysuckle.""

Rachael rode the perfect race on the Henry de Bromhead trained star as the pair pulled clear of their rivals up the Prestbury Park hill to win by 6½ lengths to Sharjah. Honeysuckle justified her short odds of 11/10 but now her jockey Rachael Blackmore has seen her chances of winning the 2021 RTE Sports Person award tumble.

As soon as Blackmore and Honeysuckle crossed the line, BoyleSports traders were inundated with requests from punters to price up the sportswoman to win the big title. Those chances were chalked up at 5/4 but following Day 2 of the Cheltenham Festival, those odds have plummeted.

This was helped after her win on Thursday riding Allaho to victory in the 2.30 Ryanair Chase.

Wednesday’s action saw Blackmore notch up win number two of the week with Bob Olinger in the Grade One Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle but the drama didn’t stop there. Rachel then suffered a fall on Embittered and unseated on Balko Des Flos and Eklat De Rire. After landing on the ground three times after her victory in the opening race, the wonderful jockey landed the finale on Sir Gerhard for Willie Mullins meaning win number three was secured.

This has resulted in the odds of Rachel Blackmore having her name on the RTE Sports Person of the Year roll of honour alongside the likes of Katie Taylor and Shane Lowry, now rated at 2/5.
