The next captain of the European Ryder Cup will be announced at Wentworth on Tuesday with Padraig Harrington set to be rubber-stamped as Thomas Bjorn’s successor.
The Dubliner is widely believed to be the choice to lead the European defence of the trophy at Whistling Straits in 2020 having served as a vice captain in the last three stagings of the event.
Shane Lowry has been given a 4/1 chance of being one of the 12 players to take on the Americans. The Offaly man is 10/1 to earn a wildcard pick from his compatriot, while Paul Dunne and Seamus Power are 10/1 and 28/1 respectively to be part of Harrington’s playing staff.
It’s an outside 20/1 chance that there is no Irish representation on the side, but English Ryder Cup specialist Ian Poulter is just 3/1 to make the team having contributed 2 points to Europe’s 2018 victory at Le Golf National in Paris.
