Leona Maguire is just 2/1 to win an event on the Ladies’ European Tour in 2019 after she secured her playing rights by the skin of her teeth on Thursday.

The Cavan golfer, whose lengthy stint on top of the World Amateur Golf Rankings was the longest in history when it ended earlier this year, turned professional in July and was competing this week at qualifying school in Morocco in search of a full European Tour card.

With only the top 5 guaranteed the honour, there was drama when Sweden’s Sarah Nilsson forced a player-off decider against Maguire thanks to a birdie at the 18th hole, with the winner securing the fifth and final playing card for 2019.

Maguire then sunk a 15-foot putt at the first extra hole to secure the victory and book her spot on the Tour next year.

We make her 2/1 to win an event on the European Tour during 2019, while she is a 20/1 shot to win any of the five Major LPGA championships during the season.
