We have a Burnley v Man United prediction and preview plus betting odds for you as we preview a crucial early season game for both teams.

There is plenty at stake coming into this game with Burnley currently occupying second from bottom on the table despite their dominant promotion from the Championship last season under the highly thought of Vincent Kompany.

It’s been a turbulent start to the season for Manchester United following their midweek loss 4-3 to Bayern Munich. Things could go from bad to worse at the weekend for the club as if they lost in Turf Moor it will be the first time in forty years that they’ve lost four of their opening six league games.

Burnley vs Manchester United Preview

Burnley’s Form

Vincent Kompany is entering his second season as Burnley manager having been appointed by the club before the 2022 Championship season. Kompany had big boots to fill after replacing Sean Dyche who had done great things at the club in his decade at the helm.

The Belgian has proved his credentials at the first-time of asking by winning the EFL Championship in his first season. The Clarets were irresistible, finishing ten points clear of Sheffield United in second place.

Burnley conducted some shrewd business during the summer. That included the purchase of Irishman Dara O’Shea and Michael Obafemi who joined Josh Cullen at the club. Elsewhere the signings of Trafford, Redmond, Beyer and Berge have all come in to strengthen this squad.

The Clarets got off to a tough start in their return to the Premier League. They had one of the toughest opening three game stretches which resulted in three losses. Those were 0-3 to Man City, 1-3 to Aston Villa and 2-5 against Tottenham. On the bright side, Burnley did get their first points of the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest last time out.

Kompany's side are now 5/2 to be relegated.

Manchester United’s Form

Manchester United returned to the Champions League this season following their third-place finish under ten Hag. This meant the club had finished in the top four in three of the past four seasons. Despite the positives from last season, chaos on and off the field is never far away at the club these days and with six points in their opening five league games, there's a feeling of deja vu at Old Trafford.

The big name signings this summer included GK André Onana, CM Mason Mount, ST Rasmus Højlund along with Sofyan Amrabat on loan. The performances (or lack thereof) from these big name signings have been disappointing to date.

Man United's last league game was against Brighton. The Red Devils were on a 31-game home unbeaten streak but Brighton humbled them in a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Injuries have been a big issue early this season as ten Hag hasn’t been helped by the long list of injuries and lack of availability among first-team players.

The pressure is compounding further on ten Hag and his credentials to “fix” Manchester United following his side's toothless display against Bayern Munich midweek in the Champions League. They lost 4-3 but many would say that this scoreline flattered them.

Could Burnley compound yet more misery on the club? If Manchester United lose in Turf Moor it will be the first time in forty years that they’ve lost four of their opening six league games.

This is a huge game for them and a must-win despite being so early in the season.

Burnley vs Manchester United Prediction

Prediction: Burnley 0-2 Manchester United

Respective moods in the camp will be very different coming into this one. Burnley enter this following their first point of the season drawing with Nottingham Forest 1-1 away from home last weekend. They’re at home this time around and will feel they've a great shot at getting a result.

Manchester United needs to find a performance from somewhere or the club's toxic spiral will continue further despite their positive signs last season. I think they should have just enough about them to get over the line here, albeit narrowly.

Best Bet: Under 2.5 Goals and Manchester United Win @ 4/1
