The opener was billed as a contest between two Super Bowl contenders, but it was the defending champions who were on the wrong end of the scoreline as Bills Quarterback Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes and rushed in one of his own in a 31-10 win.

The Bills had kicked off the season as 6/1 favourites to win the Vince Lombardi Trophy this season, but they have already been clipped into 5/1 in the early betting with BoyleSports, who also eased the LA Rams to 14/1 from 10/1 to win a second successive Super Bowl next February in Arizona.

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady, who shelved retirement plans in favour of a bid for an eighth Super Bowl ring, begins his campaign on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are rated the main dangers to the Bills this season as 17/2 second favourites ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs (10/1).

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The Bills were already very popular picks before the NFL opener, but they really laid down a marker against the reigning champions and they’re still being backed now even after we cut them into 5/1 from 6/1.

"Plenty are also putting faith in Tom Brady to come up trumps again and the Buccaneers aren’t without support in what looks like a very competitive race this season.”
