Jessie Buckley is rated a near certainty by bookmaker, BOYLE Sports, to lift the Best Actress Statuette at next month’s Academy Awards.
Fresh from success at the Golden Globes, the Killarney native is now 1/20 to double up at the Oscars for her starring role in Chloé Zao’s Hamnet, with Rose Byrne ( If I Had Legs I’d Kick You ) a distant second in the betting stakes at 6/1.
There was no joy for Paul Mescal, who was in the running for Best Supporting Actor – Drama at the weekend’s Beverly Hills bash, and he will have to overcome odds of 18/1 if he is to usurp Golden Globes winner Stellan Skarsgård (5/4, Sentimental Value ) at the Oscars.
One Battle After Another remains a strong favourite to scoop the Best Picture accolade at odds of 1/8 ahead of Hamnet (11/2), while Timothée Chalamet is a short-priced 1/3 shot to win Best Actor for his role in Marty Supreme .
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“It was a night to remember for Jessie Buckley at the Golden Globes, but with the critics, armchair experts and bookies all in agreement, she looks set to be penning an acceptance speech for next month’s Oscars too.”
