National Hunt Trainers Championship Odds – Mullins Move To Pole Position
Willie Mullins is now just 1/4 to win the British Jumps Trainers’ Championship with BoyleSports after entering an astonishing 40 horses across the two-day Scottish Grand National meeting at Ayr this weekend.
Eight winners for the Closutton handler at Aintree, including a 1-2-3-5-7 in the festival showpiece the Grand National, saw his odds slashed from 6/1 into odds-on to retain his Champion Trainer crown in the UK as he hunts down Dan Skelton’s dwindling lead at the top of the table.
An emotional Mullins welcomed son Patrick back to the winners’ enclosure on Saturday after the world’s most famous race, with the yard scooping a colossal £840,000 in prize money having fielded five of the first seven home.
While Dan Skelton held a lead in excess of £1m heading into Saturday, Mullins’ domination of the National now has the Carlow-based handler in pole position for back-to-back championships according to the oddsmakers, with Skelton seeing his odds drift from 1/10 out to 11/4 as he bids to lift the trophy for the first time.
A last gasp victory last season saw Mullins overhaul Skelton by winning the Scottish Grand National and Sandown’s Bet365 Gold Cup, and punters are expecting history to repeat itself before the curtain comes down on the jumps on April 26th.
