Brighton v Man City Preview
Brighton’s Form
Brighton under Roberto De Zerbi had to contend with balancing European Competition with the Premier League for the earlier part of the season and that can be largely put down as the reason for their drop off in the league. However, following their Round of 16 Europa League exit to Roma last month they now have a free few games before the end of the season to climb up the league.
However, since exiting Europe the rise up the table hasn’t quite transpired yet, although they had difficult defeats games which ultimately led to defeat against title chasers Liverpool and Arsenal. It’s their other two results that they would be most disappointed with, drawing 0-0 against Brentford as well as 1-1 against Burnley last weekend in two games they’d have targeted for points.
If Brighton win and results go their way they could leapfrog Chelsea into 9th place.

Man City’s Form
This is the business end of the season for Man City, and they’ve already experienced the highs and lows that come with it in the last week being knocked out of the Champions League and booking their place in the FA Cup final in the last seven or so days. With Arsenal and Liverpool winning at the weekend, they must win their games in hand to return to the top of the table, starting with Brighton.
City last weekend booked their place in a second successive FA Cup Final following their 1-0 victory against cup challengers Chelsea. In fairness to their opponents too they put on a performance using their 38% possession to have 10 total shots with a cumulative XG of 1.14 to City’s 14 and 0.93 had it not been for Silva in the 84th minute who knows what could have been for the Londoners.
The task is simple for City, win and keep control of their destiny, while anything less puts the title in Arsenal’s favour.

Key Players To Watch
Joao Pedro – Brighton
Injury-depleted Brighton are coming into this game on the back of a 1-1 draw against Burnley. While the draw was a disappointment, arguably more disappointing was they only created an XG of 0.89 from that fixture. However, they face a City side who have conceded in 5 of their last 6 games in all competitions.
Pedro has had a strong season so far with 19 goals and 2 assists from 35 matches made all the more impressive by doing it across 4 different positions CF, SS. LW and AM. If Brighton are to score on Thursday I’d put him as their most likely scorer.
Phil Foden – Man City
The Manchester maestro (23) is tremendously versatile playing across all four positions in the front four this season Making him a key cog in the Guardiola side. While Foden played the full 90 minutes at Wembley last weekend, he has been on the bench for the previous two league games.
With City gunning for another league title Foden is sure to return to the team since he does have 22 goals and 10 assists in 47 games this season so far.
Brighton v Man City Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: Brighton 1-3 Man City
Brighton head into this very much playing for nothing as they look to see out their season. However, they have the opportunity to put a severe dent in City’s title hopes with any sort of result here and with some dangerous players on their side, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
The task for City is simple: win the game or they will relinquish control in the title race to Arsenal while opening the door for Liverpool. However, I suspect they will have more than enough to get the win here.
