Breeders' Cup Odds 2022 & Betting Preview

We took a look at the Breeders’ Cup odds as one of the biggest events in horse racing takes place over the next two days over in the United States.

What Is The Breeders Cup?

The Breeders’ Cup is an annual horse racing festival that brings together some of the top racehorses in the world. The event is a staple of the international horse racing calendar and will be sure to have plenty of intrigue from many horse racing fans.

The Breeders’ Cup takes place each year in the United States and this year it is hosted by the Keeneland race track in Lexington, Kentucky. Last year the festival was in Del Mar Thoroughbred Club in south California.

Each year tens of thousands of horse racing fans flock to the event and this year is sure to be no different with some cracking races in store for viewers. The prize money is massive for this event too with over $31 million set to be given out over the two days of racing.

What is the schedule for the Breeders’ Cup?

The Breeders’ Cup starts today from Keeneland at 7pm Irish/British time. There are scheduled to be fourteen horse races taking place over the two days with five on Friday and nine on Saturday.

The races on Friday are all juvenile races and tomorrow all the racing is from fillies and mares of three years and older.

The final race takes place tomorrow at 9.40 pm. That race is the Breeders’ Cup Classic which is one of the biggest and richest races in the sport with a purse of $6 million.

How To Watch The Breeders’ Cup

ITV will be showing almost seven hours of Breeders’ Cup coverage on ITV4 this Saturday so horse racing lovers can catch all the action from a star-studded field tomorrow.

ITV4 coverage starts at 3.40 pm and runs until 10.30 pm.

How did horses qualify for the Breeders’ Cup?

All the horses racing at the Breeders’ Cup had to qualify to prove that they are indeed one of the best racehorses in the world. Qualification can be achieved by winning a Breeders’ Cup challenge race or via their ranking on a points system where they are rated over some of the biggest horse races during the year.

Friday’s Big Races

7.00 - Juvenile Turf Sprint

This race is a Grade 1 over a five-and-a-half-furlong sprint. There are currently twelve horses set to contest the race with three non-runners so far.

The favourite in the betting market is Love Reigns at 11/4 who is trained by Wesley A Ward. This trainer has won this race the past three years so will be looking for a fourth straight win this time around.

The Platinum Queen was the antepost favourite heading into this race and currently sits at second in the betting. The Richard Fahey horse will be given the ride by jockey Hollie Doyle and should have every chance at odds of 7/2.

8.20 - Juvenile Fillies Turf

The Juvenile Fillies Turf is headlined by Meditate who is the 5/2 favourite in this Grade 1 race over a 1 mile trip. Meditate would be the first European horse to win this race in years and with Ryan Moore in the saddle this horse is sure to have a great chance of crossing the finish line first.

There are fourteen runners set to battle it out in this race. The Richard Fahey trained Midnight Mile is also sure to draw plenty of interest from British and Irish racing fans. Midnight Mile is 8/1 to follow her win in Newmarket last time out with another victory here.

9.40 - Juvenile Turf

The final race of the action from Keeneland on Friday is scheduled for a 9.40 pm start time. The odds-on favourite in the betting market is Silver Knott at 10/11.

The Charlie Appleby trained horse will be aiming to repeat the success from last year when Modern Games won this race for Appleby. William Buick will be the jockey for Silver Knott and he also rode Appleby’s Modern games last year for the win.

Behind Silver Knott there is a steep fall off in the betting. There are a trio of horses vying for the second favourite spot with Victoria Road, Andthewinneris and I’m Very Busy all priced at 7/1. If Silver Knott gets a clean ride then it is hard not to fancy the Godolphin owned horse here.

Saturday’s Big Races

7.10 - FanDuel Mile

The horse that won the Juvenile Turf last year, Modern Games, is hoping to repeat his Breeders’ Cup success this time around in the FanDuel Mile. The Charlie Appleby trained horse is the 2/1 favourite in the betting.

The 2nd favourite in the betting market for this race is Kinross at odds of 7/2 who will be given the ride by Fankie Detorri. Kinross has been in incredible form this year with four straight wins and he looks to have what it takes to push Modern Games all the way in what sets up to be a cracking race.

8:40 - Longines Turf

This Grade 1 race is one of the longer races of the Breeders’ Cup as it takes place over a 1 mile and 4-furlong trip. This is yet another race that Charlie Appleby has dominated in of recent times.

Appleby won this race last year with Yibir and he has a great chance at repeat glory with the two favourites in the betting. Nations Pride, who will be rode by William Buick, is Appleby’s first favourite in the race at odds of 2/1. The 2nd favourite is Rebel’s Romance at odds of 7/2 who is given the ride for Appleby by James Doyle.

The most likely to spoil the party for Charlie Appleby is the third favourite in the betting War Like Goddess who comes into this race at odds of 9/2. The William Mott horse has three wins in his last four starts with the only loss being a second placed finish.

9:40 - Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic

This is the big one at the Breeders’ Cup, the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic. This race is eagerly anticipated and there is a strong odds-on favourite to take home the top prize on Saturday evening.

That favourite is Flightline who is currently listed at odds of 4/11. This John Sadler trained horse is in imperious form as he has won all five of his last five starts making this bay colt the top-rated horse in the world. Some have compared Flightline to Secretariat which shows you the quality of horse that we are talking about here. It’s worth tuning in just to see him in action.

The odds makers believe that Epicenter is the most likely to challenge Flightline for Breeders’ Cup Classic glory with the Steven Asmussen horse installed as the second favourite at 13/2 in the betting.
