“The Real Deal” first played on the PDC Youth Tour in 2014 and reached the Last 16 twice but has yet to trouble a major event. However, in the Players Championships this year, he reached a quarter-final and won once.
In the first round, he claimed a 2-1 victory over Damon Heta following individual set results of 3-2, 1-3 and 3-2 winning the match despite players winning an equal 7 legs each doing so with a 92.01 average.
He announced himself as a real contender for the World Grand Prix with an emphatic 0-3 win over Gary Anderson following set victories of 0-3, 2-3 and 2-3. De Decker was ruthless in scoring with an average of 95.74 and clinical in finishing with a checkout rate of 60% making 9/15 doubles.
James Wade (41) is a two-time winner of this event with victories in both 2007 against Terry Jenkins and in 2010 against Adrian Lewis. Though he isn’t as consistent as he used to be ahead of this event he did reach the Semi-Final of the 2024 World Matchplay.
Wade as he so often does overcame the odds against Wright in the first round winning 1-2 from an average of 90.44and checkout rate of 36.36% which was good enough to claim a comeback win after scores of 3-2, 1-3 and 0-3.
He overcame the odds again against Gerwyn Price to have a 0-3 victory following individual set victories of 2-3, 1-3 and 1-3. Doing so with an average of 90.01 and a checkout rate of 45% 9/20. This run of form has seen his odds slashed from 20/1 pre-tournament to 13/2 third favourite for the competition.
Best Bet: James Wade 3-1 @ 10/3

Rob Cross | 4/9 | 69.2% |
Ryan Joyce | 7/4 | 36.4% |
Rob Cross is finding form again reaching 3 Quarter-Finals and 1 Semi-Final in 2024 along with a victory on the European Tour (among several strong showings). He’s never particularly performed at this event though with his best finishes being a Last 16 in 2019 and 2021 before 2024.
He claimed a shock first-round victory over Luke Littler playing out a 2-1 thriller with all but one set going the distance 3-2, 2-3 and 3-1. That was followed by a 3-1 victory over Schindler winning after sets of 3-0, 0-3, 3-2 and 3-1. He only averaged 86.17 and a checkout rate of 37.5% with 9/24 on the doubles but it was enough to win.
“Relentless” Ryan Joyce has been playing the PDC tour since 2018 and even reached the World Championship Quarter Final in 2018. His best finish in this event before this year was when he reached the Last 16 in 2020.
Ryan averaged 85.93 points in the first round which was enough to win 0-2 against an underperforming Josh Rock (80.64) following a 2-3 and 0-3 set victories. His average improved slightly for his second-round game to 87.20 but it was his clinical finishing of 52% 13/25 on the doubles which ultimately gave him a 2-3 win over Nathan Aspinall after sets of 3-2, 2-3, 1-3, 3-2 and 2-3
Best Bet: Ryan Joyce @ 7/4
Luke Humphries vs Johnny Clayton

Luke Humphries | 2/9 | 81.8% |
Johnny Clayton | 10/3 | 23.1% |
World Number (1) “Cool Hand Luke” (29) has become a serial winner these last two years winning 6 major events including the PDC World Championship, World Matchplay and World Cup of Darts in 2024.
In the first round, he overcame potential banana skin Stephen Bunting by a 2-1 overall scoreline after coming from behind in the first set losing 0-3 to win 3-2 and 3-1 averaging 89.87 compared to his opponents 87.19. He continued his consistent throwing in the second round with a 3-1 win over Ricardo Pietreczko winning after sets of 3-0, 1-3, 3-1 and 3-1 with an average of 92.01 and a checkout rate of 45.45% 10/22, he has gears to go in his game yet.
At one point “The Ferrett” was one of the most consistent players on tour from 2021-2024 but specifically in 2021 when he won four major events. Though he’s fallen back recently he remains a threat to anyone on his day.
In the first round, he had a strong average of 93.71 compared to his opponent's 86.35 to win 3-1 and 3-2 in individual sets to win 2-0 overall. The second round saw a step back in his average to 80.32 though his checkout rate of 34.62% on 9/26 was enough to win 3-1 overall after sets of 0-3, 3-1, 3-2 and 3-1.
Best Bet: Luke Humphries to win with a full house @ 7/4
Joe Cullen vs Dimitri van den Bergh
Time: 22:15
Cullen v van den Bergh Odds | ||
---|---|---|
Player | Odds | Chance |
Joe Cullen | 6/5 | 45.5% |
Dimitri van den Bergh | 4/6 | 60% |
Joe Cullen's best finish in the World Grand Prix was a Semi-Final finish in 2023 and he is another dangerous player in his day. However, 2024 has been a year of early exits aside from a runner-up finish at the Austrian Darts Open.
In the first round, he defeated his underperforming friend Dobey (85.05) 1-2 with individual set results of 3-1, 1-3 and 0-3 with an average of 93.23 and a checkout rate of 36.84%. Though the second round saw his average fall back to 82.52 and a checkout rate of 32.26 with 10/31 darts it was enough to win 2-3 after a comeback win over Daryl Gurney from sets of 3-1, 2-3, 3-0, 0-3 and 0-3.
van den Bergh's best finish at a World Grand Prix was a Quarter-Final result in 2022. He is a two-time major event winner with the World Matchplay in 2020 and the UK Open this year beating Luke Humphries in a thrilling 11-10 game.
In the first round, he earned a 1-2 win over potential banana skin Luke Woodhouse following individual set results of 3-1, 1-3 and 1-3 doing so with a checkout rate of 35% and a brilliant average of 97.18
The second round saw him the underdog against World Number (5) Dave Chisnall but he pulled out a comeback 1-3 victory after sets of 3-1, 0-3, 2-3 and 2-3. Though his average slipped back to 88.48 and a checkout rate of 35.71% with 10/28 darts made is a two-time major event winner and has big claims here to go even further.
Best Bet: Dimitri van den Bergh @ 4/6
