Defending US Open champion Rafael Nadal has announced that he will not compete in this year’s tournament due to an injury.

A dodgy wrist has been plaguing the King of Clay recently and has forced him to bow out of the Flushing Meadows event.

With only a week until the start of the tournament, Nadal had been a favourite for punters who will no doubt be disappointed to hear he has withdrawn.

Boylesports would like to ease their disappointment and have made the defending champ a non-runner seeing a significant sum being refunded in return.""

Nadal was making a bid for his third US Open title and had been heavily backed to retain his title for a second consecutive year.

With Nadal out of the running Novak Djokovic continues leads the way, heading the betting at 6/5. Roger Federer has been cut in from 9/2 to 3/1 whilst Andy Murray remains a 4/1 shot for victory at Flushing Meadows.
